The Trump shooting won’t be swept under the rug. There’s too many questions.

And now the Secret Service Director has been implicated in the terrible Trump shooting tragedy.

Ohio Representative Criticizes Secret Service Over Trump Assassination Attempt

In a heated Oversight hearing on Monday, Republican Ohio Representative Mike Turner confronted Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, accusing her of being potentially “culpable” had former President Donald Trump perished in a recent assassination attempt. The incident involved 20-year-old Thomas Michael Crooks, who managed to position himself within rifle range of Trump by climbing onto a building near a rally. Crooks killed former volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore and injured two rally attendees, David Dutch (57) and James Copenhaver (74), before being apprehended. Trump sustained an injury to his ear during the attack.

Turner, addressing Cheatle, argued that President Joe Biden should consider terminating her employment due to the security lapses that permitted the incident. During the hearing, Turner inquired if Cheatle had been informed about a specific threat to Trump from Iran, to which Cheatle confirmed.

Turner referenced FBI Director Christopher Wray’s briefing, suggesting that the threat assessment should have included this intelligence from Iran. Cheatle maintained that the assessment was adequate.

“Have you read or been briefed about the intelligence of the specific recent threat to Donald Trump from Iran?” Mr. Turner asked of Director Cheatle.

“FBI Director Christopher Wray, when we were getting our briefing, indicated that he thought the threat assessment should have included this threat from Iran,” Turner continued. “Is it your testimony today that the threat assessment, since you’ve read this intelligence, was sufficient to protect them from this threat from Iran?” the Ohio representative went on to ask.

Cheatle simply responded “I believe it was.”

Reports indicated that U.S. authorities were aware of an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate Trump prior to the attack, prompting an increase in security measures. However, no connection has been established between the Iranian plot and Crooks’ actions.

Turner questioned Cheatle further, comparing the capability of international terrorist groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda to a lone 20-year-old in executing such attacks. Cheatle acknowledged the evident failure in security that day, prompting Turner to assert that her competence was in question and suggesting that Biden should fire her if she did not resign voluntarily. Turner emphasized the risk posed to all individuals under Secret Service protection due to perceived inadequacies in their threat response.

“Because Donald Trump is alive, and thank god he is, you look incompetent. If Donald Trump had been killed, you would have looked culpable,” Turner added in his comments in the hearing.

“Not only should you resign, if you refuse to do so, President Biden needs to fire you, because his life, Donald Trump’s life and all the other people which you protect, are at risk because you have no concept of the aspect that the security footprint needs to be correlated to the threat.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson echoed Turner’s sentiments on Wednesday, calling for Cheatle’s resignation due to the assassination attempt and her responses during media engagements. Despite the mounting pressure, Cheatle has stated she will not step down. Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe highlighted the severity of the situation, particularly in light of the prior knowledge regarding the alleged Iranian threat, describing the assassination attempt as “even more glaring.”

This incident has sparked a critical review of the Secret Service’s protocols and threat assessments, especially concerning high-profile individuals and perceived threats from international entities.

Donald Trump in an interview recently said that he was not made aware of any credible threat to assassinate him, including the one from Iran. Then, he was not made aware of any threat to take his life though the Secret Service agents had reportedly been made aware of the threat of a man on a roof 130 yards away well before Trump ever took to the stage.
