America’s enemies are alive and well. There’s no telling when the first strike will come.
And now this sudden missile launch put the Pentagon on high alert.
In a move that raises eyebrows, China fired an intercontinental ballistic missile into the Pacific Ocean on Wednesday, mere hours after President Biden took to the global stage, calling for enhanced security in the region.
The Chinese Ministry of Defense confirmed the missile launch, explaining that it carried a dummy warhead and posed no threat to any nation, landing harmlessly in the ocean.
According to China’s People’s Liberation Army’s Rocket Force, this was just part of their routine military exercises.
The timing of the missile test, however, is notable.
Earlier that day, President Biden delivered his final speech at the United Nations in New York, highlighting a range of international security concerns, with a specific focus on the growing threat China poses to Western interests.
“We also need to uphold our principles as we seek to responsibly manage the competition with China so it does not veer into conflict,” Biden stated, calling for peace while keeping a cautious eye on Beijing.
He added, “We stand ready to cooperate on urgent challenges for the good of our people and the people everywhere.”
Biden also took a moment to applaud recent cooperation with China on curbing the flow of deadly synthetic narcotics.
“I appreciate the collaboration. It matters for the people in my country and many others around the world,” he said.
The president didn’t mince words about China’s aggressive posture in the region, particularly toward Taiwan.
“On matters of conviction, the United States is unabashed, pushing back against unfair economic competition and against military coercion of other nations in the South China Sea, in maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits, in protecting our most advanced technologies so they cannot be used against us or any of our partners,” Biden asserted.
Meanwhile, a U.S. Department of Defense spokesperson revealed to Fox News Digital that they had received prior notice of the missile test.
“We monitored the PRC ICBM test launch that occurred earlier today,” the spokesperson said.
“The PRC did give some advance notification of the ICBM test. This is a step in the right direction to reducing the risks of misperception and miscalculation.”
The spokesperson further noted that this could pave the way for more formalized bilateral notification systems regarding missile and space launches, calling it a “common sense confidence-building measure.”
China’s missile launch, coming on the heels of Biden’s call for regional security, could be seen as a deliberate display of military power — a reminder that, despite talk of peace, Beijing remains ready to flex its muscles in a high-stakes global competition.
