The establishment GOP aren’t fond of Trump. But this Republican took things to a whole new level.
And a RINO released these heinous statements about Donald Trump that you have to see to believe.
In the lead-up to a highly charged presidential election, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who recently endorsed former President Trump, has been thrust into the spotlight with revelations from a new biography.
The book, titled The Price of Power by Michael Tackett, contains striking remarks from McConnell that paint a complex picture of his relationship with the GOP’s current presidential nominee.
McConnell, known for his strategic mind and political longevity, has never been one to mince words. According to the excerpts from Tackett’s book, the Kentucky senator has privately expressed harsh views about Trump, referring to him as “not very smart, irascible, [and] nasty.”
Despite these sentiments, McConnell has publicly backed Trump as the Republican nominee, emphasizing the party’s unifying efforts heading into the election.
Responding to the revelations, McConnell downplayed the significance of his earlier comments.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, he remarked, “Whatever I may have said about President Trump pales in comparison to what JD Vance, Lindsey Graham, and others have said about him, but we are all on the same team now.”
His statement highlights the broader trend within the GOP of rallying behind the former president despite internal criticisms.
In The Price of Power, McConnell’s frustration with Trump extends beyond mere personality clashes.
At one point, he called Trump a “sleazeball” after Trump launched personal attacks on his wife, Elaine Chao, labeling her “Coco Chow.” The animosity seemed mutual, with Trump frequently targeting McConnell in public.
Despite the tumultuous past, McConnell made a striking move in March by endorsing Trump, saying the former president had “earned the requisite support of Republican voters to be our nominee.” This decision, no doubt surprising given their strained relationship, signals the political realities within the GOP, where loyalty to Trump remains pivotal.
The book reveals further moments of tension between the two figures. Following Trump’s loss in the 2020 election, McConnell privately expressed relief, according to the biography.
He is quoted as saying, “It’s not just the Democrats who are counting the days” until Trump left office, and praised the “good judgment of the American people” for voting him out. He also attributed the Republican Party’s loss of the House majority in the 2018 midterms to Trump, claiming Trump “has every characteristic you would not want a president to have.”
Even in 2022, McConnell’s views on Trump remained critical, particularly when reflecting on the former president’s persistent false claims of election fraud. “Unfortunately, about half the Republicans in the country believe whatever he says,” McConnell lamented, voicing concerns over Trump’s enduring influence within the party.
Yet, despite these deep-seated criticisms, McConnell has taken a pragmatic approach, prioritizing party unity over personal grievances.
As the election draws closer, Mitch McConnell is hoping Republicans succeed.
However, his past actions and statements seem to make conservatives think otherwise, and he’s constantly gone against the Party’s beliefs and core values in order to score political points.
This is how he earned his RINO (Republican In Name Only) label. And it’s not something he should be proud of.
