President Biden pardoning his son was a bombshell. No one in Washington, D.C. could believe it.
And now a top U.S. lawyer has noticed something very strange about Hunter’s pardon.
There’s simply no getting out of the fact that the Joe Biden administration all lied about the President not giving his son a pardon for his crimes before good ol’ Sleepy Joe left office. They made it clear in no uncertain terms that this was not going to be the case under any circumstances.
The White House press secretary said that Joe Biden would not be giving his son a pardon. Even Joe Biden himself said to reporters in the media that he would not be giving his son a pardon whatsoever and that he believed in upholding the law. There was something honorable about that.
Of course, he reneged on that promise like yet another corrupt career politics “family” man. But it’s not that he just pardoned Hunter, it’s the way he did this that is really raising eyebrows for lawyers and constitutional experts. George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley has weighed in, saying that this pardon is unlike anything he’s ever seen.
Top U.S. Lawyer Blasts Joe Biden For Broad Pardoning Of Son Hunter
In the landmark decision, President Joe Biden formally granted a “full and unconditional pardon” to his son, Hunter Biden, for any crimes he may have committed since 2014. This includes any potential charges stemming from allegations of influence peddling during his tenure on the board of a now-defunct Ukrainian gas company. Legal expert and professor, Turley, weighed in on the matter during an interview on Fox News, calling the pardon’s language “virtually unprecedented.” He emphasized that no previous presidential pardon has included such broad language, describing it as a “breathtaking act of contempt for the American people.”
“The language of this pardon is virtually unprecedented,” Turley remarked. “I mean, former President Richard Nixon was very, very broad. But we’ve never seen anything like this. Biden is literally pardoning his son for any crime that he may have committed during these years. Everything from money laundering to murder. Now, he could be charged with state offenses, but the statutes of limitations have largely run on those offenses. So it’s a really breathtaking act of contempt for the American people and it has happened over and over again.”
The pardon encompasses any offenses charged or prosecuted between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024, which includes potential crimes tied to Hunter’s overseas business dealings, as well as charges related to his gun purchase and tax issues. These charges have been significant, with Hunter Biden having been convicted in June on three felony charges related to a 2018 gun purchase, during which he knowingly filled out false information while under the influence of drugs. In addition, he faced up to 17 years in prison for allegations that he failed to pay $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019.
In the wake of Hunter Biden’s conviction, the White House had consistently maintained that the president would not intervene and issue a pardon. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated this stance during a flight on Monday, assuring the American public that neither she nor President Biden had lied about the prospect of a pardon. She emphasized Biden’s belief in the justice system, despite his claims that the investigation into his son was politically motivated.
In his statement announcing the pardon, President Biden argued that his son had been “singled out” by his political opponents. He suggested that the charges — particularly for the gun form violation and late taxes — were not typically prosecuted in such a manner, especially after the offender has repaid the money owed. Biden continued, saying, “No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son – and that is wrong.”
The president also expressed his concern that the relentless attacks on Hunter Biden were part of a broader political strategy aimed at undermining him. “There has been an effort to break Hunter—who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution,” Biden stated. “In trying to break Hunter, they’ve tried to break me – and there’s no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough.”
Biden’s statement concluded with an affirmation of his commitment to transparency, asserting that throughout his career, he has always prioritized telling the American people the truth. “For my entire career I have followed a simple principle: just tell the American people the truth. They’ll be fair-minded. Here’s the truth: I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice – and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further. I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision,” Biden said.
The pardon has sparked significant debate, with critics arguing that it represents an overreach by the president, while supporters contend it is a necessary step to rectify what they see as politically motivated charges against Hunter Biden. Regardless of the differing opinions, the move marks a historic moment in American politics, raising questions about the scope and power of presidential pardons.
