The reckoning has come. Trump and his allies are bringing real reform.
That’s why this announcement from Senator Ted Cruz has Washington, D.C. quaking in its boots.
Sen. Ted Cruz Accuses Democrats of Fearing Kash Patel’s Confirmation as FBI Director
Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz expressed strong support for Kash Patel’s nomination as FBI Director, following Patel’s confirmation hearing on Thursday. Speaking on Fox News, Cruz accused Democrats of being “terrified” and “freaking out” after the hearing, claiming they were unable to land a “single blow” against Patel’s qualifications or character.
Patel, who was nominated by President Donald Trump for the position, faced intense questioning during his confirmation hearing, but Cruz believes that Democrats’ efforts were futile. In an appearance on Hannity, Cruz said the Democrats were afraid of what Patel represents: a return to an FBI that focuses on its core mission — enforcing the law impartially, without political bias.
“The Democrats are terrified. That’s exactly what Kash Patel will do. Not weaponize it against Democrats but bring the FBI back to its core mission of stopping bad guys and enforcing the law regardless of party,” Cruz asserted. “And they’re freaking out. But here’s the good news, Sean. They didn’t score a single blow today. Kash Patel will be confirmed as the next director of the FBI.”
He drew a comparison to Shakespeare’s Macbeth, famously describing a tale “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” “It was a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, and signifying nothing,” Cruz remarked, pointing out that the Democrats’ behavior during the hearing — shouting, table thumping, and foot stomping — didn’t result in any substantial arguments against Patel’s qualifications. “What is really striking is none of them made a serious argument that Kash Patel is not qualified.”
Cruz went on to highlight Patel’s extensive background, detailing his nearly two decades of experience in various high-stakes law enforcement and national security roles. According to Cruz, Patel has worked as a federal public defender and prosecutor, held a position in the National Security Division of the Department of Justice, served as a senior national security staffer on Capitol Hill, worked in the national security apparatus in the White House, and was even the chief of staff at the Department of Defense.
“He spent nearly two decades working in law enforcement. He’s been a federal public defender. He’s been a federal prosecutor. He’s worked in the National Security Division of the Department of Justice,” Cruz said. “He’s been a senior national security staffer on Capitol Hill. He’s worked in the national security apparatus in the White House. And he’s been the chief of staff at the Department of Defense. His experience is extensive.”
Cruz also suggested that the real concern among Democrats is Patel’s potential to address what he sees as a key issue — the politicization and weaponization of the Department of Justice and the FBI. This, Cruz believes, was a central promise of President Trump’s 2024 campaign.
“What they are afraid of is that Kash Patel will do exactly what Donald Trump promised,” Cruz said, emphasizing that Trump’s pledge to end the politicization of federal agencies was a key component of his platform. “If you look at what President Trump campaigned on across the country, one of the core promises Donald Trump made to this nation is that he would end the politicization and the weaponization of the Department of Justice and the FBI.”
Patel’s confirmation hearing also saw some notable moments of back-and-forth, particularly with Democratic Illinois Sen. Durbin. Durbin questioned Patel about Trump’s controversial Executive Order pardoning individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot. However, Patel responded by flipping the narrative, highlighting President Joe Biden’s own pardoning actions, including pardons for family members and violent offenders.
Despite these contentious moments, Cruz remained confident in Patel’s eventual confirmation, asserting that his qualifications and commitment to restoring the FBI’s integrity would prevail over partisan opposition.
All eyes will be on the next steps, but Cruz’s comments suggest he believes the Democrats’ resistance is unlikely to succeed in derailing Patel’s appointment as the next Director of the FBI.
