Trump Administration Exposes USAID’s Wasteful Spending, Musk Calls for Agency’s Shutdown
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt didn’t hold back when she detailed some of the most outrageous ways the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has been squandering taxpayer dollars. As the Trump administration and Elon Musk move to overhaul the agency, Leavitt made it clear that American citizens have been footing the bill for absurd and wasteful projects abroad.
Speaking outside the White House on Monday, Leavitt rattled off a shocking list of USAID expenditures, highlighting how far the agency has drifted from its original mission. Among the most egregious examples:
- $1.5 million to promote DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives in Serbian workplaces.
- $70,000 for a DEI-themed musical in Ireland.
- $47,000 to fund a transgender opera in Colombia.
- $32,000 for a transgender comic book in Peru.
“I don’t know about you, but as an American taxpayer, I don’t want my dollars going toward this crap,” Leavitt said. “And I know the American people don’t either. That’s exactly what Elon Musk has been tasked by President Trump to do—get the fraud, waste, and abuse out of the federal government.”
The White House released a fact sheet exposing even more reckless spending by USAID. Among the most jaw-dropping revelations:
- Over $2 million spent on electric vehicles in Vietnam.
- $2 million funneled toward s*x changes and “LGBT activism” in Guatemala.
- A staggering $6 million to support tourism in Egypt.
- U.S. tax dollars allegedly funding meals for al-Qaida fighters in Syria.
- Money spent on “personalized” birth control devices in developing countries.
- Funding Taliban heroin production through irrigation canals, farming equipment, and fertilizer used for poppy cultivation in Afghanistan.
President Trump has long been critical of USAID, warning that the agency has been hijacked by “radical left lunatics” and transformed into a slush fund for progressive pet projects instead of focusing on its intended mission.
USAID was originally established by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, inspired by the Marshall Plan that helped rebuild Europe after World War II. However, by the 1970s, the agency had shifted from providing technical and financial assistance to funding so-called “basic human needs,” including controversial programs focused on population control, health, and education.
Now, Elon Musk — who has become one of Trump’s most trusted advisers and is leading the Department of Government Efficiency — has set his sights on USAID, making it clear that he wants the agency dismantled. On Monday, Musk declared that the president fully supports shutting it down.
“USAID is a criminal organization,” Musk posted on X. “Time for it to die.”
The agency appears to be bracing for a major shakeup. Emails sent to USAID employees advised them to stay away from the agency’s Washington headquarters on Monday, an indication that the Trump administration’s crackdown is already in motion.
With Trump and Musk leading the charge, USAID’s days of unchecked spending and radical Leftist influence may soon be coming to an end.
