And now the Trump administration has formed a new alliance with a top Governor that has D.C. in panic mode.

Ron DeSantis Creates New Alliance With Trump Admin’s DOGE To Establish Florida State-Level Similarity

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is taking bold steps to reshape the state’s approach to government spending and taxation. In a recent announcement, DeSantis revealed plans to establish a Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE) task force, drawing inspiration from similar efforts from the Trump administration. This initiative aims to eliminate wasteful spending at the local level and streamline governmental processes.

In his statement, DeSantis emphasized the state’s commitment to fiscal conservatism, highlighting Florida’s position as a leader in efficient governance. “Florida has set the standard for fiscally conservative governance, and our new Florida DOGE task force will do even more to serve the people of Florida,” DeSantis said on Monday.

Key Goals of the Florida DOGE Task Force

The Florida DOGE task force is tasked with several critical objectives aimed at enhancing government efficiency and reducing unnecessary bureaucracy. One of the key focuses will be scrutinizing the allocation of government funds to state universities, ensuring that taxpayer money is being used effectively. The task force will also evaluate the relevance of various governmental boards and commissions. In particular, the task force will investigate whether the continued existence of 70 boards and commissions is necessary as we approach 2025.

“The Florida State DOGE Task Force will implement a multi-pronged approach to eliminating bureaucratic bloat and modernizing our state government to best serve the people of Florida,” the governor’s office stated.

Ron DeSantis Looking At Ridding The State of Property Taxes

In addition to his efforts to increase government efficiency, Governor DeSantis is also championing an ambitious proposal to eliminate property taxes in Florida — a move that would make the state the first in the nation without such taxes. This radical idea has sparked intense debate among both supporters and critics, with proponents arguing it could significantly reduce the tax burden on property owners and attract more residents to the state.

A bill introduced on Tuesday in the Florida Senate seeks to study the potential effects of eliminating property taxes. The bill calls for a formal analysis of how this change could impact public services, the state’s economy, and the housing market. This proposed study comes just days after DeSantis expressed his support for eliminating or drastically reducing property taxes in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“I agree that taxing land/property is the more oppressive and ineffective form of taxation,” DeSantis wrote in a response to a user who inquired about the feasibility of eliminating property taxes. “Property taxes are local, not state. So we’d need to do a constitutional amendment (requires 60% of voters to approve) to eliminate them (which I would support) or even to reform/lower them,” DeSantis continued. “We should put the boldest amendment on the ballot that has a chance of getting that 60%.”

Following DeSantis’ remarks, State Senator Jonathan Martin, a Republican from Fort Myers, filed Senate Bill 852, which calls for the proposed study. There has not been much resistance amongst Republicans so far to get in the way of potentially reforming how property taxes work in the state or outright banning said taxes.

Currently, all U.S. states impose property taxes, which are typically set and collected at the local level, though the authority to implement these taxes comes from the state government. In Florida, the average effective real estate tax rate is 0.79%, placing the state in the middle range compared to other states. According to WalletHub, this rate is relatively moderate when compared to the national average.

Should the proposed study and eventual constitutional amendment succeed, Florida could become the first state in the nation to eliminate property taxes. Despite concerns from DeSantis’ critics, his administration has been the most fiscally responsible administration leading a top 10 state in the nation by population.
