Washington, D.C. earned its label as “the Swamp.” They’ve long been a hindrance for any change and improvement for America.

But this time a U.S. Senator introduced a bill that is such a game-changer it’s left Washington, D.C. utterly stunned.

Trump’s Tough-on-Crime Push Gains Momentum with New Senate Bill

The Trump administration’s aggressive stance on securing America’s borders and protecting its citizens from violent crime is gaining traction in Congress. On Thursday, Republican Texas Senator John Cornyn introduced a powerful piece of legislation aimed at cementing President Donald Trump’s executive order that authorizes the death penalty for illegal immigrants convicted of m*rder. This move signals a resolute commitment to prioritizing the safety of American lives and ensuring justice for victims of heinous crimes.

Titled the “Justice for American Victims of Illegal Aliens Act,” Cornyn’s bill seeks to enshrine Trump’s January 20 executive order into federal law. The legislation would amend U.S. Code to explicitly include illegal immigration status as a factor in determining whether a death sentence is warranted for capital crimes.

The executive order itself directs federal prosecutors to pursue the death penalty not only for illegal immigrants guilty of m*rder but also for those involved in the k*lling of law enforcement officers. By codifying this policy, the bill ensures that future administrations cannot easily reverse this measure with a single signature, providing a lasting safeguard for the nation.

“Violent predators who enter our country illegally and brutally m*rder American citizens should be subject to the death penalty as a consequence of their heinous actions,” Cornyn said in a statement. “By enshrining President Trump’s Executive Order into law, this legislation would protect the American people, make our country safe again, and ensure no future President can singlehandedly undo this consequence for taking innocent lives.”

The urgency of this legislation is backed by stark realities at the border. In fiscal year 2024, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) apprehended over 10,000 illegal immigrants with prior criminal convictions, including 29 individuals charged with homicide or manslaughter. In the early months of fiscal year 2025, CBP has already detained nine illegal immigrants with similar charges. These numbers reveal the persistent threat posed by violent offenders crossing into the United States, a challenge the Trump administration has confronted head-on.

Since President Trump took office, illegal border crossings have plummeted, a testament to his administration’s relentless focus on border security. CBP statistics show a 71% decrease in apprehensions from January to February and an astonishing 94% drop compared to February 2024. This dramatic reduction demonstrates the effectiveness of Trump’s policies in deterring illegal immigration and curbing the associated risks to public safety.

The bill has garnered robust support from a coalition of Republican senators, including Montana’s Steve Daines, Nebraska’s Pete Ricketts, Alabama’s Tommy Tuberville, Idaho’s Jim Risch and Mike Crapo, South Carolina’s Tim Scott, West Virginia’s Jim Justice, and Indiana’s Jim Banks. Their backing reflects a shared commitment to holding violent criminals accountable and reinforcing the rule of law.

“Illegal immigrants who m*rder American citizens deserve the death penalty,” Senator Banks declared. “I fully support codifying President Trump’s executive order to ensure these monsters face justice.”

Cornyn’s leadership on this issue comes as he faces a primary challenge from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who announced his candidacy for Cornyn’s Senate seat on April 8. The two have a history of tension, with Paxton once criticizing Cornyn for supporting a foreign aid bill, claiming the senator would “defend other countries’ borders, but not America.”

Cornyn, in turn, dismissed Paxton’s challenge, calling him a “known con man and a fraud” in remarks to reporters. Despite this political friction, Cornyn’s focus remains on advancing legislation that aligns with the Trump administration’s mission to protect Americans from the dangers posed by illegal immigration.

This bill represents a critical step in fortifying the nation’s defenses against violent crime and ensuring that those who prey on American citizens face the ultimate consequence. As the Trump administration continues to prioritize border security and public safety, the “Justice for American Victims of Illegal Aliens Act” stands as a bold declaration of resolve to put America first.
