Trump desperately wants his presidency to be a success. This latest news will help him achieve that goal.
And Donald Trump just breathed a sigh of relief when he heard this crucial news.
U.S. M*rder Rates Drop in 2025, Potentially Hitting Historic Lows
Violent crime in the United States is on a remarkable downward trajectory, with m*rder rates poised to reach their lowest per-capita levels in decades, possibly ever, by the end of 2025.
This marks the third consecutive year of significant declines, driven by strong policy measures by the Trump admin and a renewed focus on supporting law enforcement.
“Since President Trump took office, m*rder rates have plummeted across the entire United States,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt declared in a statement on Tuesday. She attributed the trend to the administration’s unwavering commitment to public safety.
“American families were promised their communities would be safer and President Trump swiftly delivered by vocally being tough on crime, unequivocally backing law enforcement, and standing firm on violent criminals being held to the fullest extent of the law.”
FBI data paints a clear picture of this progress. In 2014, the U.S. recorded its lowest m*rder rate since 1960, at 4.46 k*llings per 100,000 people.
By 2023, the most recent year with complete FBI statistics, the rate had fallen to 5.75 per 100,000, down from a recent peak of 6.83 in 2020—a year marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and mass social unrest.
Preliminary data for 2024, compiled by AH Datalytics’ Real-Time Crime Index from over 400 local agencies, shows the rate dropping further to 4.97 per 100,000, surpassing the FBI’s reported rates for 2018 (5.15) and 2019 (5.17).
The momentum has carried into 2025. According to the Real-Time Crime Index, m*rders in the first quarter of this year are down 21.6% compared to the same period in 2024.
Independent crime analyst Jeff Asher, in a May 12 Substack post, noted, “[I]t’s fairly clear that a decline in the direction we’re currently seeing would safely give 2025 the title of lowest US m*rder rate ever recorded.”
President Trump’s administration has prioritized a hardline stance on crime, with a particular emphasis on addressing offenses committed by illegal migrants.
In April, the White House displayed 100 mugshots of deported individuals on its lawn, alongside lists of their alleged crimes, signaling a firm commitment to enforcement.
FBI spokesperson Ben Williamson credited these efforts for the ongoing success. “Good policy fosters good outcomes,” Williamson stated on Tuesday.
“Under this administration’s leadership, our federal law enforcement teams are receiving the tools and support they need to crush violent crime and keep the American people safe, and that’s exactly what they’re doing. We have much more to do, but let good cops be cops, and the results will follow.”
This positive trend is evident in major cities as well. New York City has seen a 28.2% drop in m*rders year-to-date, with 112 m*rders in the first five months of 2025—a 34.1% decrease from 2023, 41.4% from 2010, and an astonishing 85.7% from 1993.
Philadelphia, often ranked among the nation’s deadliest cities, reported a 14.7% decline in m*rders. Similar patterns are emerging in Chicago (23% decline), Baltimore (24%), and New Orleans (25%), reflecting a nationwide shift toward safer communities.
