In a move that’s got the left scrambling, Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has thrown open the gates for federal agents to keep patrolling the nation’s capital without any end in sight. This comes just as President Trump’s emergency decree to smash crime in DC wraps up its initial 30-day run.
Bowser dropped her new directive on Tuesday, mandating that local cops team up with federal forces “to the maximum extent allowable by law within the District,” according to reports from the Washington Post.
She timed it perfectly, signing off three weeks after Trump unleashed the troops to scrub the streets clean, right before his federal grip on DC’s police force ticks down next week.
Posting on X, the mayor made it clear: this order will “provide the pathway forward beyond the Presidential emergency.”
She’s not shy about bragging on the wins from the federal surge, especially how it’s hitting the homeless crisis head-on.
The official release lays it out: “Outreach teams identified 764 total individuals living outside, with 81 people living in tents.” Plus, “Since the start of the surge, approximately 80 additional individuals have entered the District’s shelter system.”
The Trump Administration is grateful to continue partnering with Mayor Bowser to make DC the safest city in the country.

President Trump himself is crowing about the turnaround, and who can blame him?
“We don’t have a crime problem in Washington anymore,” Trump said to reporters on Tuesday. “And the mayor has been very helpful.”
He’s pointed out that since the feds took over on August 11, there’s been just two homicides—talk about a massive drop.
During a stop at a Park Police hub last month, Trump declared, “It’s like a different city. It’s the capital and it’s going to be the best in the world.”
Trump didn’t stop there; he took to Truth Social to give Bowser her flowers, saying her star’s rising fast thanks to their tag-team effort.
“Wow! Mayor Muriel Bowser of DC has become very popular because she worked with me and my great people in bringing CRIME down to virtually NOTHING in DC,” Trump posted Monday, claiming her popularity has shot up “25%.”
Bowser jumped in at a presser last week, flexing stats that prove the Trump plan is gold: an 87% plunge in carjackings and a 45% slash in overall violent crime since the intervention kicked off.
Even the National Guard’s getting in on the action, suiting up in camo to spruce up the city—hauling trash, scrubbing off graffiti, and cleaning up leaves.
And in a win for border security hawks, DC Metro Police Chief Pamela Smith buckled under Trump’s federal push last month, greenlighting her officers to link up with ICE and flag suspected illegal immigrants who aren’t even in custody. That’s real cooperation putting America first.
