And now Barack Obama is in utter disbelief after Donald Trump dropped this bombshell on him.

Trump’s Sharp Critique of Obama’s Library Struggles

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump seized the opportunity to take a swipe at former President Barack Obama’s beleaguered presidential library project during a lively White House press briefing.

When Daily Caller White House correspondent Reagan Reese inquired whether Trump had seen the Obama Presidential Library’s design, he didn’t mince words, stating, “It’s not too pretty.” Expanding on the project’s woes, Trump remarked, “He needs help. It’s closed, it’s stopped. They ran out of money.”

He painted the endeavor as a confused hybrid, calling it a “library slash museum,” and suggested its stalled progress stemmed from mismanagement.

Trump specifically pointed to Obama’s decision to prioritize a DEI-focused construction team, noting, “He wanted only women in DEI to build it. That’s what they got.” His comments point to a narrative of the project’s struggles, which have drawn increasing scrutiny in recent years.

Social Media’s Relentless Mockery of the Design

The Obama Presidential Library has become a lightning rod for ridicule on social media, where users have gleefully compared its bold, futuristic design to everything from oversized garbage bins to the Death Star from Star Wars.

The viral thread gained significant traction after Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz chimed in, quipping that “locating the Death Star in Chicago was a bold move.”

This online roasting has not only targeted the library’s monolithic aesthetic but also fueled skepticism about its purpose and execution.

Critics on platforms like X have questioned whether the design aligns with the traditional gravitas of a presidential library, with some arguing it feels more like a sci-fi monument than a tribute to Obama’s legacy. The social media firestorm has only amplified the project’s public relations challenges.

Escalating Costs and Community Tensions

Since its groundbreaking in 2021, the Obama Presidential Library and Museum has faced a cascade of obstacles, transforming 19 acres of Chicago’s South Side into a focal point of contention.

The project has been bogged down by years of lawsuits and fierce opposition from local residents, who argue that the massive construction has driven up rent and housing costs, displacing many low-income families in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Initially projected at $500 million in 2017, the project’s cost has skyrocketed to over $850 million, far surpassing early estimates of $300 million and a revised $700 million budget by 2021. These escalating expenses, coupled with delays, have raised questions about the Obama Foundation’s financial planning and oversight.

Community advocates have also voiced concerns about the project’s environmental impact and its disruption of historic parkland, further complicating its progress. The Obama Foundation did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment on the mounting challenges.
