Maher used to be a staple of Left-wing media. But he’s finally seen his side for what it is.
And now Bill Maher broke with ‘childish’ Democrats in a betrayal heard round the world.
Bill Maher Calls Out the Left’s Thanksgiving Family-Blocking Habit
In the final pre-Thanksgiving episode of HBO’s Real Time, Bill Maher delivered a blunt and timely rebuke to liberals who have turned voting for Donald Trump into a reason to exile relatives from the holiday table.
Maher lamented how Thanksgiving, once defined by “food, friends, family, football, fun,” has become little more than a political loyalty test.
“You’re not even invited because you voted for the wrong person,” Maher said. “I’m so tired of liberals ghosting half this country. Conservatives do it too, but not nearly as much.”
With Trump having won the popular vote by 2.3 million and earning more than 77 million ballots, Maher argued that cutting off family over politics has become a uniquely left-wing indulgence.
“Look, whoever’s doing it, it’s got to stop, because we’re at a point now where politics has broken up more families than letting your wife see your phone.”
The Two Liberal Camps and the Woke Purity Spiral
Maher identified the split on the left: the “keep talking” faction and the “go no-contact” faction that treats Trump-supporting parents as morally radioactive.
He highlighted Obama speechwriter David Litt’s op-ed questioning the wisdom of snubbing conservative relatives, only for the woke crowd to immediately attack Litt for deviating from the approved script.
“So, of course, then the ‘woke’ wing tried to banish him for breaking ranks on their policy of hating people who don’t agree with you on everything, because what fun is life if you’re not cutting somebody off?” Maher quipped.
He also called out Jimmy Kimmel’s wife and co-head writer Molly McNearney, who admitted she severed ties with relatives after they ignored her pre-election email listing “10 reasons” not to vote Trump.
“She says she’s lost relationships with relatives because she wrote them an email before the election with 10 reasons why they shouldn’t vote for Trump, and some still didn’t obey,” Maher said. “I can think of 100 but I would never present it to someone as an ultimatum.”
“Ultimatums don’t make people rethink their politics, they make them rethink you.”
The Mirror Every Liberal Needs
In a line that stung his own audience, Maher, who voted for Kamala Harris, told Democrats exactly why they lost.
“You know what would have been a better exercise? Write a top-10 list to yourself where you try to imagine 10 reasons why 77 million Americans didn’t want to trust you with taking power… You’re just why she lost.”
He closed with the plainspoken wisdom that has kept him relevant even among viewers who disagree with him.
“Can we please try to remember, especially at this time of year, that most people don’t decide their politics, they inherit them… Ghosting family members because they supported the opposing presidential candidate [is] so childish, so purely emotional.”
“We can do this, people, it’s Thanksgiving,” Maher said. “Do yourself a favor: get over yourself and go have it with your family.”
