Plenty of people want to take down Trump. And it could come sooner than you think.
Now Trump confessed when he believes he’ll be impeached.
Trump Urges House Republicans to Secure Midterm Victory Amid Impeachment Warnings
President Donald Trump spoke to House Republicans during their annual policy retreat at the Kennedy Center, stressing the necessity of maintaining their majority in the November midterm elections to avoid potential impeachment efforts by Democrats.
He stated, “You’ve got to win the midterms,” and added, “If we don’t win the midterms … they’ll find a reason to impeach me. I’ll get impeached.”
Trump referenced historical patterns, noting that in 20 of the last 22 midterm elections for the House, the president’s party has lost seats.
He observed, “So, whether it’s Republican or Democrat, whoever wins the presidency, the other party wins the midterm. And it doesn’t make sense because we’ve had the most successful year probably in history.”
The House currently features a slim Republican majority, with 218 seats held by Republicans, 213 by Democrats, and four vacancies, including the seat formerly occupied by California Rep. Doug LaMalfa, who passed away earlier in the week.
Democrats Push for Impeachment Following Venezuela Operation
The president’s remarks come in the context of recent Democratic calls for his impeachment after a U.S. military action that resulted in the removal of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who was brought to New York to face narco-terrorism charges.
Democrats have criticized the operation as unauthorized and a violation of legal protocols. Maryland Rep. April McClain Delaney said, “Over the weekend, we saw the president — without authorization or approval from Congress, as required by our Constitution — launch an attack on Venezuela and voice his intention to ‘run’ the country,” and urged her caucus to “immediately consider impeachment proceedings,” while accusing Republicans of permitting the president to disregard the rule of law.
Illinois Rep. Delia C. Ramirez described the capture as a “kidnapping” and characterized it as “dangerous violations of international and U.S. law,” also advocating for impeachment.
Trump, who was impeached twice during his first term and acquitted both times—once in 2019 over a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and again in connection with the January 6, 2021, Capitol events—commented, “They impeached a president who did a d-mn good job. I rebuilt our military, space force. I did a lot. They impeached me for nothing. We should have impeached Joe Biden for 100 different things. They are mean and smart. But fortunately for you, they have horrible policy.”
Trump Highlights Achievements in Extended Speech
In a 72-minute address that included humor and policy discussions, Trump encouraged Republicans to campaign on his administration’s record, including measures to exclude transgender athletes from women’s sports, health care reforms, immigration enforcement, and tax extensions under the One Big Beautiful Bill. He advised the group, “You have so much ammunition. All you have to do is sell.”
