Trump doesn’t wait around for people to fall into line. Time is precious.

And now Donald Trump blindsided one Republican with an attack straight out of left field.

Trump’s Strategic Endorsement Boosts Rising Star in Louisiana Senate Race

In a masterful move showcasing his enduring influence within the GOP, President Trump surprised many by throwing his full support behind Rep. Julia Letlow (R-La.) for Louisiana’s U.S. Senate seat, positioning her as a strong contender against incumbent Sen. Bill Cassidy.

Trump’s endorsement, announced via Truth Social on Saturday, highlights his commitment to promoting “America First” champions while subtly addressing past disloyalties. He lauded Letlow as a “TOTAL WINNER” and “wonderful person,” emphasizing her alignment with his vision for a safer, stronger nation.

“I am hearing that Julia is considering launching her Campaign for the United States Senate in Louisiana, a place I love and WON BIG, six times. Should she decide to enter this Race, Julia Letlow has my Complete and Total Endorsement. RUN, JULIA, RUN!!!” Trump posted, refraining from direct attacks on Cassidy but making his preferences crystal clear.

This bold step emphasizes Trump’s proactive role in shaping the Republican Party, especially as he continues to reward loyalty and elevate fresh voices amid his second term’s successes.

Cassidy’s Defiant Response Amid History of Clashes with Trump

Sen. Bill Cassidy, a gastroenterologist by training and chair of the Senate HELP Committee, reaffirmed his reelection bid on January 18, brushing off Trump’s endorsement as he clings to his seat despite a track record of opposing the president.

Cassidy, who infamously voted to convict Trump in his second impeachment following the January 6, 2021, events and even urged him to exit the 2024 race over the Mar-a-Lago documents issue, has drawn Trump’s ire for straying from core conservative priorities.

“I’m proudly running for re-election as a principled conservative who gets things done for the people of Louisiana. If Congresswoman Letlow decides to run I am confident I will win,” Cassidy stated on X, projecting confidence even as his actions have alienated Trump loyalists.

While Cassidy has occasionally aligned with Trump on issues like war powers and tariffs, and reluctantly supported Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s HHS nomination, his push for stricter FDA rules on mifepristone and vaccine stances have highlighted rifts.

Backed by Senate GOP leaders and a hefty $11 million campaign fund, Cassidy’s position now faces real jeopardy from Trump’s powerful backing of an alternative.

Letlow Emerges as Trump’s Pick for Unwavering Conservative Leadership

Rep. Julia Letlow, who has been mulling a Senate run for months, graciously accepted Trump’s endorsement, signaling her readiness to deliver the steadfast conservatism Louisiana deserves. Her response amplifies Trump’s call for leaders who prioritize the people’s interests over establishment games.

“I’m honored to have President Trump’s endorsement and trust. My mission is clear: to ensure the nation our children inherit is safer and stronger. This United States Senate seat belongs to the people of Louisiana, because we deserve conservative leadership that will not waver,” Letlow wrote on X.

As one of only three remaining senators who voted against Trump in his impeachment—alongside Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski—Cassidy’s vulnerability is evident.
