Polls can sometimes be a welcoming sight. But not this one.
And this latest poll reveals scary news for Republicans.
In the heated run-up to Texas’s Democratic U.S. Senate primary next month, Rep. Jasmine Crockett is pulling away as the top dog, grabbing a solid 47 percent of likely voters in a fresh poll from the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs.
She’s got a clear edge over state Rep. James Talarico, who’s stuck at 39 percent, while Ahmad Hassan barely registers at two percent. With 12 percent still sitting on the fence, Crockett’s momentum looks strong on paper.
What’s fueling her lead? Crockett boasts sky-high favorability among Dem primary voters—84 percent see her in a good light, with just eight percent giving her the thumbs down.
She’s a household name too, with 92 percent of folks saying they know enough about her to pick a side. Talarico isn’t far behind at 85 percent recognition, scoring 79 percent favorable and only six percent unfavorable, but Crockett’s got that extra shine right now.
Zoom out to the full Texas electorate, and Crockett edges Talarico in positives at 45 percent to 43 percent. But here’s the rub: she’s hauling a hefty 36 percent unfavorable rating, way higher than Talarico’s 23 percent.
Name ID gives her a slight advantage at 81 percent awareness versus his 66 percent, though both pale next to GOP heavyweights like Ken Paxton at 89 percent and John Cornyn at 86 percent.
In a red state like Texas, those numbers could spell trouble come November.
Meanwhile, the FCC is digging into ABC’s The View for possibly bending equal-time rules after featuring both Crockett and Talarico.
Crockett soaked up about 17 minutes across three segments, while Talarico got a measly nine minutes in one spot.
FCC rules demand fair play for all candidates who’ve filed paperwork, but Crockett’s gig happened before the agency clamped down in January. Smells like another case of media favoritism toward loudmouth liberals.
Crockett’s made no bones about her hatred for President Donald Trump, calling him “more corrupt and more criminal than any other president.”
She’s pinned the blame for “all” political violence squarely on MAGA. “It is MAGA. It is the specifically MAGA faction.”
Yet, Crockett thinks she’ll peel off some Republican votes in the general because they crave authenticity and bipartisanship.
“What they want is somebody that they know who they are,” Crockett stated during an interview.
“So I have text messages from Republicans that have made it clear that if there is a certain person that ends up making it through, they are absolutely voting for me because they know who I am.”
“They know that I know the issues. They know that I know how to work across the aisle when necessary. And they also know that I don’t take any mess.” Sounds like wishful thinking from someone who’s spent her career trashing the right.
