Former President Trump had a brush with death. The fallout has been crazy.
And now Donald Trump has shared one detail about being shot that is raising everyone’s eyebrows.
Former President Trump Attributes Immigration Chart to Saving His Life During Assassination Attempt
In a harrowing incident during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, which he credits to an immigration chart he was examining at the time. This revelation was shared by Texas GOP Representative and former White House doctor Ronny Jackson in an interview with The New York Times.
The former president recounted to Jackson that his life was saved by a mere turn of his head to look at a chart displaying statistics on illegal immigration into the United States. Trump explained that had he not turned his head slightly to point at the chart, the bullet that grazed his ear would have struck his head directly, likely resulting in his death.
“He goes, ‘The border patrol saved my life,'” Jackson recounted Trump saying. “‘I was going over that border patrol chart.’ He said, ‘If I hadn’t pointed at that chart and turned my head to look at it, that bullet would have hit me right in the head.'”
The chart in question highlighted the significant increase in illegal immigration under the Biden administration, with more than seven million illegal migrant encounters reported by Border Patrol agents since fiscal year 2021, according to Customs and Border Protection data cited by The New York Times.
During the rally, a would-be assassin climbed onto a nearby roof and fired multiple rounds at Trump before being neutralized by U.S. Secret Service agents. The attack not only endangered Trump but also resulted in injuries to several attendees, including Jackson’s nephew.

If Trump hadn't moved his head, the bullet would likely have hit the rear of his head, ending his life.

“My nephew was injured at the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania,” Jackson shared on the social media platform X. “Thankfully, his injury was not serious, and he is doing well.” He elaborated that his family was seated near the front of the rally, close to where Trump was speaking. Amid the chaos of gunfire, his nephew discovered blood on his neck from a grazing wound, and he received treatment at a medical tent on site.
The FBI has since identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, approximately 35 miles south of the rally location. Law enforcement officials reported that an AR-15-type semiautomatic rifle, purchased by Crooks’ father, was found next to his body, along with explosive devices in his vehicle.
In response to the attack, Trump sanctioned a GoFundMe campaign for the victims, which has raised over $4 million to date. This campaign reflects the widespread support and solidarity for those affected by the tragic event.
The incident highlights the persistent threats faced by public figures and the critical role of vigilant security measures. Trump’s narrow escape serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers inherent in political life and the often-unseen moments that can alter the course of history.
Donald Trump’s Chaotic Three Day Stretch Leading Up to GOP Convention
The timing of the tragedy couldn’t have been more insane. The GOP Convention got underway on Monday morning, where Donald Trump was officially picked as the Republican nominee for president.
Donald Trump reported that he was being asked to reconsider having the convention this week given that he was just shot. Everyone agreed that it would have been understandable if he needed to take time for himself and for his family and stay out of the limelight after this horrific event.
He rejected and said that he was totally fine. He attended the convention, announced his vice president pick J.D. Vance, and gave his speech as he was expected to do. His speech was, according to Trump, supposed to be very different until he decided to rewrite it after the events in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Donald Trump shared with reporters that he wanted to rewrite a more unifying message to share in his convention speech rather than focusing on Joe Biden alone, as he was planning to do originally.
That unifying message is one that Americans have been calling for over the past several years.
