Former President Trump tried to send out a stark warning. Democrats didn’t want to listen.
And now Donald Trump’s been knocked off his feet after Democrats made this huge confession.
One of the major policies of the Democrat Party that Donald Trump has been critical of is this idea of “Sanctuary Cities.” He, and millions of Americans for that matter, believe sanctuary cities are a surefire way to create chaos in our major metro and suburban regions throughout the nation. Furthermore, it only invites more illegal immigrants to try and make it into the nation illegally.
Some Democrats are having second thoughts about their push for sanctuary cities, but it’s already too late. Donald Trump tried to warn them, but now they have to lie in the bed they’ve made.
NYC Voters Denied a Say on Sanctuary City Laws
New York City voters will not have the opportunity to decide the fate of laws protecting undocumented immigrants, as the city’s Charter Revision Commission has decided not to include a referendum on the November ballot regarding these controversial sanctuary city laws.
Despite efforts from a moderate bloc within the city council and support from Mayor Eric Adams, the commission opted not to propose rolling back regulations that limit federal immigration authorities’ ability to apprehend undocumented individuals. The commission’s report highlighted the complex legal landscape and ongoing challenges as reasons for not presenting the issue to voters at this time.
“The Commission has heard considerable testimony calling on the Commission to propose an amendment to change so-called ‘sanctuary city’ laws,” the report stated. “In view of the repeated executive and legislative actions in this area, judicial construction of relevant state law, and the ongoing and fluid challenges posed by the influx of new arrivals to the City, the Commission does not believe a ballot question concerning this important area is appropriate at this time.”
This decision has been met with disappointment from moderate city council members who had hoped that a referendum would lead to the repeal of the sanctuary laws. GOP Councilwoman Vickie Paladino, a member of the Common Sense Caucus, expressed her frustration, stating that the decision was “disappointing but unsurprising.”
The Common Sense Caucus, a bipartisan group advocating for moderate policies, introduced legislation last month to repeal laws that prevent New York City law enforcement from cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These laws, originally passed during former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration, limit the New York Police Department’s ability to work with ICE and prohibit city officials from assisting in federal immigration enforcement.
This morning, I joined the Coalition for Better Communities to demand an immediate end to New York's Sanctuary City status & the migrant crisis plaguing our city.

At the announcement of the proposed legislation, caucus members emphasized the need for change, arguing that the city has enough criminals without protecting those who are undocumented. Mayor Adams has shown support for reforming these sanctuary laws, calling de Blasio’s policies a “big mistake” and confirming that his office has been in discussions with federal immigration authorities.
However, with a city council dominated by liberal Democrats, the bill’s chances of success were always slim. Proponents had hoped that the newly-established Charter Revision Commission would give voters the chance to decide, but the commission ultimately chose not to include the issue on the ballot.
Council Member Robert Holden, co-chair of the Common Sense Caucus, criticized the commission’s decision as a “colossal failure” and a missed opportunity to address the city’s sanctuary laws. He suggested that the commission was never truly interested in giving voters a choice, describing the process as a “dog and pony show.”
The commission’s decision comes amid an ongoing migrant crisis in New York City. Over 208,000 migrants have arrived in the city, straining resources and increasing shelter populations. The city’s report acknowledges the significant financial burden, with expenditures expected to exceed $12 billion by 2025.
The crisis has been exacerbated by high-profile crimes allegedly committed by undocumented immigrants, including the arrest of Bernardo Raul Castro Mata for allegedly shooting at NYPD officers and the alleged r*pe of a 13-year-old girl. Additionally, Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s initiative to bus migrants to New York City has further intensified the situation.
Despite the setback, some supporters of the anti-sanctuary measure remain hopeful. GOP Council Member David Carr stated that while the referendum will not be on the ballot this year, efforts to repeal the laws will continue. “My colleagues and I will continue to fight to get these absurd and dangerous laws repealed,” Carr affirmed.
New Yorkers want to see their sanctuary status repealed. The more I watch the New Yorkers the more I realize they are gonna fight to take their state back. But it will be too late by then. The gangs don't walk away after setting up shop.
