Top Democrat abandons their party to make a shocking endorsement

The Left is bleeding support. Even their own members are tired of the same old song and dance.

And now a top Democrat abandoned their party to make a shocking endorsement.

Amid an ongoing and unprecedented border crisis that has gripped Texas for over three years, a surprising shift is occurring among high-profile Democrats: they’re rallying behind U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican they’ve never endorsed before.

Cruz, the Houston Republican, is gearing up for his third Senate term, facing a challenge from U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, a Dallas Democrat who’s lagging in the polls.

Often labeled as polarizing or far-Right by critics on the Left, Cruz is seen by conservatives as a steadfast defender of key values: pro-life, traditional marriage, women’s rights, the Second Amendment, and school choice, to name a few.

But in a twist that transcends party lines, some Texas Democrats, prioritizing border security and crime prevention, are now backing Cruz. The record-breaking influx of illegal border crossers under the Biden-Harris administration has left Texas bearing the brunt, with surging crime rates victimizing Americans, as The Center Square reported.

Texans who once identified as Democrats — or steered clear of politics altogether — are now rethinking their stance after losing loved ones to violent crimes committed by illegal foreign nationals, who only managed to stay in the country due to Biden-Harris policies, or by repeat offenders released by what they describe as activist Democratic judges.

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, a Democrat, has consistently stood up to her own party’s progressive leaders, especially after they attempted to defund law enforcement — a move that forced the state to intervene.

With crime and corruption reportedly rising under the previous Democratic mayor and current Harris County judge, Ogg has teamed up with Houston’s new mayor, John Whitmire, and the Republican attorney general’s office to tackle these issues head-on.

Crime is at the top of the mind for voters across Texas, from large Democratic-controlled cities to small border towns.

While Allred and other Democrats distance themselves from the Biden-Harris border policies, an increasing number of Democrats are switching allegiances, running for office as Republicans, or endorsing GOP candidates, as The Center Square noted.

Making history at a recent law enforcement rally in Houston, Ogg threw her support behind Cruz, declaring, “We are seeing a problem at our border.”

“My constituents hate crime and expect the government to keep them safe from criminals. They deserve protection, but our country’s laws and policies don’t always work to that end. No case has spotlighted our crime problem and shaken our city more poignantly than the brutal m*rder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, who was tragically m*rdered by two undocumented Venezuelan nationals who were captured crossing the border illegally but were released from federal custody. Had Senator Cruz’s Justice for Jocelyn Act been the law today, Jocelyn would be alive.”

“I am endorsing Senator Ted Cruz because he has taken action at a time when Americans want solutions, not excuses, about why Democrats and Republicans won’t work together. I appreciate the Senator for reaching out to me, the top law enforcement official in Harris County and Democratic office holder, to work together to protect our nation’s children from predators who shouldn’t be roaming our streets. Crime is bigger than partisanship.”

Before her endorsement, Ogg co-authored an op-ed with Cruz in support of his bill to honor Nungaray, a Houston girl who was brutally m*rdered by Venezuelan men who had illegally entered the country. Rather than being deported, these men were released by the Biden-Harris administration under a parole program, according to The Center Square.

Cruz has also garnered support from a new “Democrats for Cruz” coalition, which includes lifelong Democratic border sheriffs, judges, law enforcement union leaders, teachers, farmers, and parents.

Many of these lifelong Democrats are preparing to vote Republican for the first time this November.

Endorsements for Cruz have been rolling in from law enforcement associations in Democratic strongholds like Austin, Houston, McAllen, and San Antonio, as well as from Democratic-controlled counties like Bexar, Dallas, Harris, Hidalgo, and Travis.

Their reason is clear: Allred’s vote against the POLICE Act, which makes assaulting a police officer a deportable offense, is a deal-breaker. The bill, championed by 16 House Republicans in response to an alarming increase in attacks on police officers by criminal aliens, stalled in the Senate under Democratic control.

Even at the border, Democrats are lining up behind Cruz, including Zapata County Sheriff Raymundo Del Bosque, Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez, Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson, Reeves County Sheriff Art Granado, Kenedy County Judge Charles Burns, and Reeves County Judge Leo Hung.

Many of these officials hail from the 55 counties that declared an invasion, as reported exclusively by The Center Square.

“The crisis at our southern border threatens our communities and well-being every single day,” said Judge Hung.

“We used to live in a state where we could walk outside without fear of getting hurt. Now, because of the policies of the National Democratic Party, we fear for our safety every time we step outside. I’ve been a Democrat all my life and will continue to be, but no one has fought harder to secure the border than Senator Ted Cruz, which is why I am endorsing him for reelection and look forward to his victory in November.”
