This news came completely out of left field. Congress has had a major shakeup.
And this resignation news out of Congress has Washington, D.C. erupting in chaos.
Tennessee Congressman Mark Green Exits for Private Sector, Shaking GOP’s House Edge
Tennessee Representative Mark Green has stepped down from Congress to pursue an enigmatic new role in the private sector, leaving the Republican Party with an even slimmer House majority as critical legislative fights approach. His resignation, effective July 20, follows his key role in passing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a major GOP achievement.
“It’s with a heavy heart that I say farewell,” Green stated. “To my constituents across Tennessee’s 7th District—thank you. The trust you put in me is humbling. I will look back fondly on my years of serving as your voice in Washington.”
A Mysterious Next Chapter
In a video, the retired U.S. Army officer hinted at his next move: “While I cannot give the details here, I will be doing something specifically designed to help America compete against the CCP [Chinese Communist Party], but this time in business.”

Reports from Notus last month suggested Green was exploring business ventures in Guyana, though he’s kept details under wraps.
Green’s departure narrows the GOP’s House majority to 219-212, a fragile edge that could dwindle further as Democrats are favored to win three vacant seats in upcoming special elections.
A future election will fill Green’s seat, previously held by Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), who may now be eyeing a run for Tennessee governor.
Legislative Impact
As House Homeland Security Committee chairman, Green was instrumental in shaping the border security components of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
His absence complicates GOP plans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) push for another reconciliation bill and a looming government shutdown battle this fall.
Today was my last vote in Congress. My time here started with a fire to serve veterans, it continued with leading the historic impeachment of a cabinet secretary, and now it ends with achieving real border security. Personal Controversy
Green’s personal life made headlines last year when his wife filed for divorce, alleging an affair with an Axios employee. She later corrected the claim, stating to Politico, “I want to correct the record, because I misidentified someone in that message.”
“My husband has never had a relationship with a reporter from Axios, and I regret having said that.” Initially opting out of the 2024 race, Green reversed course before ultimately resigning.
With Green’s exit, Republicans face a tougher road ahead, and all eyes are on his mysterious next chapter.
