JD Vance has been a great defender of the Trump admin. He’s not afraid to fight back when attacked.
And Vance hits Gavin Newsom with a punch to the face during a Fox News interview.
JD Vance Takes Aim at Gavin Newsom’s Trump Mimicry, Hails D.C. Crime Drop
In a recent appearance on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle, Vice President JD Vance tore into California Governor Gavin Newsom’s efforts to channel President Donald Trump’s brash style, calling the move inauthentic and doomed to fail. Vance, speaking with host Laura Ingraham, also celebrated new data showing a sharp decline in crime in Washington, D.C., thanks to Trump’s federal intervention.
Newsom, often mentioned as a possible 2028 presidential hopeful, has raised eyebrows with his press office’s X account, which has taken to mimicking Trump’s signature social media swagger and habit of slapping nicknames on political foes. When Ingraham asked Vance if Democrats could gain ground by adopting Trump’s tone, he shot down the idea.
“This idea that Gavin Newsom is somehow going to mimic Donald Trump’s style – I think that ignores the fundamental genius of President Trump’s political success, which is that he’s authentic,” Vance declared. “He just is who he is.”
Authenticity Trumps Imitation
Vance stressed that genuine connection trumps imitation. “You’ve got to be yourself. You’ve got, actually, to talk to people honestly about the issues,” he said. “Gavin Newsom can mimic Donald Trump all that he wants to, they’re still going to lose unless they get better policies that actually serve the American people.”
His advice for Democrats was blunt: “I don’t think it’s that complicated – Don’t be a crazy person. Be authentic. If the Democrats did that, they’d do a h*ll of a lot better.
But Vance doubted their ability to pivot, pointing to their reaction to Trump’s recent crime-fighting push in D.C. “Democrats really can’t help themselves,” he said, referencing their criticism of Trump’s move to federalize the city’s police and send in thousands of federal officers and National Guard troops.
“If you look at the crime issue, they’re calling Donald Trump a fascist for taking action,” Vance noted. “So part of sounding less crazy is being less crazy.”
Trump’s D.C. Crime Crackdown Delivers
Shifting gears, Vance shared striking figures about Trump’s D.C. crime crackdown, launched with an executive order on August 11 declaring a crime “emergency” in the capital. “Violent crime has dropped in DC, 35% in nine days,” he revealed, adding that “robberies in DC have dropped 55% in nine days.”
These numbers, Vance argued, show that restoring order is a matter of resolve. “If you’ve got the political will to enforce the law, you can make even cities like DC safe again, and that’s what we’re demonstrating,” he told Ingraham.
A Blueprint for Safer Communities
Vance framed the D.C. effort as a model for the nation. “I hope the American people just recognize that you don’t have to live with lawlessness,” he said.
“You don’t have to live with third-world m*rder rates. If you just take control of these cities, you can make them safe places to live in.”
With Newsom’s team dabbling in Trump’s playbook, Vance’s message was clear: authenticity and action, not copycat tactics, are what drive results. His remarks cast Trump’s approach as a winning formula, while painting Democratic strategies as out of touch.
