And a Democrat candidate has egg on their face for giving an absurd answer to this vital question.
Virginia Republicans are firing back hard at Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Abigail Spanberger, accusing her of endorsing dangerous policies that let biological men invade women’s sports just by claiming a transgender identity.
In a recent interview with a local news station, Spanberger faced tough questions on transgender access to school bathrooms and athletic competitions. She defended the old system that existed prior to Governor Glenn Youngkin’s tenure, which handled these matters individually rather than sticking to biological s*x.
“So in Virginia, we previously, until very recently, had a process in place where on an individual, one-by-one basis, schools, parents, principals, coaches were making decisions based on fairness, competitiveness, and safety, where a child might be able or might not be able to play in a particular sport,” Spanberger said to WSET earlier this week. “It was in place for ten years over that time. There were roughly 40 kids who went through the process. Some were denied the ability to play the sport they wanted to play. Some were approved.”
She went on to praise that outdated approach, insisting it balanced personal situations with local needs.
“I think that … the process that was in place for 10 years was one that was working. It was one that took individual circumstances and individual communities into account, and I think that is the process that Virginia should continue to utilize,” she continued.
This stance has drawn sharp rebukes from conservatives who see it as a direct threat to girls’ safety and fairness in sports.
Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, Spanberger’s Republican opponent in the upcoming November showdown, didn’t hold back in slamming her evasive response.
“Abigail Spanberger just went full Kamala Harris to avoid a simple yes or no question,” Earle-Sears stated. “The answer is YES—Abigail supports men in girls’ sports, restrooms, and locker rooms.”
Earle-Sears has hammered this point home in her campaign ads, exposing Spanberger’s record on these radical transgender agendas during her congressional days.
“Spanberger wants boys to play sports and share locker rooms with little girls. And Spanberger will let children change genders without telling their parents,” an ad states.
The Republican Governors Association piled on, calling out Spanberger for stubbornly clinging to policies that endanger young women.
They charged that she doubled “down on her support for biological men in girls’ sports, locker rooms, and bathrooms. Not only is this wrong, it’s putting Virginia girls at risk.”
The conservative group American Principles Project also tore into her, highlighting how she dodged a straightforward query with nonsense.
“Abigail Spanberger was asked a yes-or-no question about protecting women’s sports and private spaces. Her response? Confusion, deflection, and word salad. Virginia cannot afford this INSANITY,” the group states.
This transgender school debate isn’t new—it’s what propelled Glenn Youngkin to victory over Democrat Terry McAuliffe in 2021, after a horrifying incident in Loudoun County where a skirt-wearing male assaulted a girl in a high school bathroom, as exposed by The Daily Wire.
Youngkin, barred from seeking another term, swiftly implemented clear guidelines mandating sports based on biological s*x, not fleeting gender feelings, to shield Virginia’s daughters from such risks. Spanberger’s push to revert to the chaotic case-by-case mess ignores the real dangers that parents across the commonwealth have rallied against.
Her position aligns with the far-left wing of her party, prioritizing woke ideology over the well-being of actual girls who deserve safe, level playing fields. As the election heats up, Earle-Sears and fellow Republicans vow to keep spotlighting these threats, reminding voters what’s at stake for families and traditional values.
