Biden has numerous health issues. But this is the most worrisome.
As former President Biden has undergone an urgent and concerning medical treatment.
In a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities even the powerful face, former President Joe Biden, now 82, has kicked off a regimen of radiation therapy alongside his ongoing hormone treatments to combat an aggressive form of prostate cancer. A spokesperson for Biden confirmed this development, marking another chapter in his health struggles that first came to light earlier this year.
The radiation sessions are set to span five grueling weeks, aimed at tackling the cancer that Biden publicly disclosed back in May.
“As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment,” the former president’s spokesperson said to NBC News.
When Biden first broke the news of his diagnosis, it was already clear the cancer had metastasized to his bones. Doctors had been managing that with hormone medications, hoping to keep it in check.
“The expectation is we’re going to be able to beat this,” Biden said when speaking to CNN in May.
“It’s not in any organ,” he said while also explaining that the cancer hadn’t pierced through his bones.
The diagnosis stemmed from Biden reporting troubles with his urinary system, which prompted medical tests. Those exams revealed a small nodule on his prostate, as reported by the BBC, setting off alarms about the seriousness of the situation.
Experts quickly identified it as an aggressive type of prostate cancer, one that’s particularly responsive to hormone-based interventions. This gave the medical team a targeted path forward, focusing on slowing its advance.
Yet, the fact that it has reached Biden’s bones changes the game entirely—it’s now considered incurable. Still, advancements in chemotherapy and hormone therapies offer hope for extending life significantly for patients in similar positions.
Just last month, Biden added another procedure to his medical ledger: Mohs surgery to excise skin cancer lesions.
During his time in the White House, Biden championed the “cancer moonshot” initiative, pouring resources into revolutionizing how we detect and fight various cancers. It was a bold push, aiming to accelerate progress against a disease that touches so many American families.
Now, as he faces his own fight, questions swirl about how this impacts his legacy and the Democratic Party’s direction.
Supporters rally around him, praising his resilience in the face of personal adversity.
But for many on the right, this saga emphasizes the need for transparency from public figures, especially those who’ve held the highest office.
As treatments continue, Americans watch closely, hoping for the best while pondering the toll of age and illness on those who once steered the ship of state.
Biden’s journey serves as a humanizing force in the cutthroat world of politics.
