In a stunning display of self-preservation, former President Joe Biden is dragging the Department of Justice into court to stop the release of private audio recordings from his conversations with a biographer back in 2016 and 2017.
These tapes, which capture Biden discussing sensitive matters, are now at the center of a fierce battle over transparency and accountability.
According to Reuters, the lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Washington, DC, aims to halt the planned June 15 handover of the materials to the House Judiciary Committee as well as the Heritage Foundation.
Per the outlet, the recordings surfaced during Special Counsel Robert Hur’s 2023 probe into the former president and his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
Despite the serious nature of that investigation, Hur chose not to pursue criminal charges. Yet the existence of these audiotapes has ignited fresh demands for public scrutiny.
The DOJ resisted the Heritage Foundation’s Freedom of Information Act requests, treating the materials as off-limits.
That resistance held firm until President Donald Trump returned to the White House. Only then did officials announce they would comply with the congressional request, prompting Biden’s legal pushback.
Critics see this as a blatant attempt to evade the rules that everyday Americans must follow.
Biden’s team insists he fully cooperated with investigators, handing over the tapes under strict conditions.
“President Biden cooperated fully with Special Counsel Hur, and agreed to provide audiotapes of conversations with his biographer for a book about his deceased son on the condition that they would not be made public,” Biden’s spokeperson TJ Ducklo stated.
“The DOJ themselves have said these tapes serve no public interest.”
This claim rings hollow to many who watched Biden’s administration lecture the country about openness while shielding its own secrets.
President Trump wasted no time firing back on Truth Social Tuesday night, labeling Biden as a “crooked politician.”
His blunt assessment captures the frustration felt by millions who see Washington insiders playing by their own set of rules.
