Fox News Poll: War-Weary Voters Sour on Iran Conflict as Trump’s Ratings Take a Hit
A new Fox News survey finds a majority of voters now oppose U.S. military action against Iran, with President Donald Trump’s disapproval on the issue reaching a record high even as Republicans continue to lose ground on immigration, an issue that has long been one of the party’s strongest.
Voters Grow Weary of Prolonged Iran Conflict
The latest Fox News survey finds 56% of voters oppose U.S. military action against Iran, including 40% who “strongly” oppose it. More Democrats oppose the war (84%) than Republicans support it (76%).
Voters increasingly expect a long-term commitment, with 64% now believing the war will last a year or more, up 13 percentage points since May. About half think the U.S. will not reach a deal with Iran, while the remainder split between expecting a good deal (27%) and a bad one (25%).
Just 34% of voters approve of Trump’s handling of Iran, while 66% disapprove — his worst marks on the issue to date. Trump’s overall job approval remains steady but underwater at 39%, unchanged for the third straight month, with 61% disapproving.
Trump continues to draw strong support from his base, with 97% approval among MAGA Republicans and 72% among conservatives. But his numbers have slipped elsewhere: approval among rural voters fell 7 points to 44% since June, hitting an all-time low among White voters at 41%. The steepest decline came among non-MAGA Republicans, whose approval fell 13 points in a single month to 51%, down sharply from 70% at the start of his second term.
Republicans Lose Their Edge on Immigration
Voters are now evenly divided over which party can better handle immigration, with 50% favoring Democrats and 49% favoring Republicans — a significant shift from April, when the GOP held an 8-point advantage on the issue.
“During the Biden administration years, immigration attitudes were often defined by border security considerations,” said Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts the survey alongside Democratic pollster Chris Anderson. “Today, immigration enforcement and ICE often dominate, eroding the GOP’s edge on the issue.”
Despite the shift, immigration remains Trump’s best-performing issue in the poll, though his rating is still net negative at 42% approve to 57% disapprove. ICE approval stands at 41%, down from 49% last September, with 79% of Republicans approving compared to 90% of Democrats and 68% of independents disapproving.
Few voters, just 7%, support allowing all illegal immigrants already in the U.S. to remain, while 62% favor deporting those charged with crimes and allowing others to eventually pursue citizenship. Thirty-one percent favor deporting all illegal immigrants, a position that climbs to 68% support among MAGA Republicans specifically — underscoring a persistent divide within the GOP itself, with ICE approval at 91% among MAGA Republicans compared to just 59% among other Republicans.
Conducted July 17–20, 2026, under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with 1,003 registered voters. Results have a margin of sampling error of ±3 percentage points.
