Biden is willing to destroy anything to get his agenda through Congress. Now the Senate is in his crosshairs.
And a US Senator exposes Biden’s terrifying scheme for America
Senator Tommy Tuberville stated that President Joe Biden would sooner “burn the Senate down” than negotiate lifting Tuberville’s hold on Senate approval for large military promotions.
Since February, the Alabama Republican has blocked adoption of a Department of Defense (DoD) policy that reimburses service members who fly out of state for abortions.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin implemented the program after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, leaving abortion legality and limitations to state governments.
Tuberville’s grip does not completely prevent military promotions. The Senate may still examine promotions one at a time, and Democrats have proposed a vote on select top-level jobs.
Tuberville’s hold, on the other hand, forbids voting on many cases at once in order to save time.
“It’s typical of this place. This administration would rather burn the Senate down and that’s what would happen. … If you change the rules of the Senate then it lasts forever,” Tuberville said on CNN on Sunday.
“So they would rather burn down the Senate than negotiate.”
Tuberville has refused to relinquish his position in the midst of the Ukrainian conflict and after a confrontation began between Israel and Hamas after the Palestinian terror group killed over 1,400 Israelis, the majority of whom were civilians, in an October 7 terror strike.
The Alabama senator has asked Austin to modify the Department of Defense policy on abortion travel, claiming that it politicizes the military and effectively finances abortions. He has dismissed Democrat allegations that the standstill is affecting military readiness.
“If I thought this was happening, I wouldn’t be doing this. And I’ve told you that all along. And the people that I trust tell me that it’s not,” he said.
To get over Tuberville’s blockade, Democrats have proposed modifying Senate rules. The rule change would have to be approved by nine Republicans voting with every Democrat.
“If they go around and, without negotiating, change the rules of the Senate it just goes to show you they want it their way or the highway,” Tuberville told CNN.
Tuberville’s stance on DoD policy has divided Republicans. Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, who is competing for the Republican presidential nomination, has labeled Tuberville’s ban on military advancements a “mistake.”
Republican Senator Mike Lee, on the other hand, has commended Tuberville’s obstruction.
“We need more like @SenTuberville,” Lee said on Twitter in September.
“And we need more senators defending him — especially those claiming to care about life and the rule of law. Republican senators shouldn’t be siding with Biden here; nor should they silently acquiesce to his false and inflammatory talking points.”
