The Biden administration is in a complete free-fall after the president’s terrible debate performance. Now things are getting even worse.
And Congress hit one Biden official with a devastating demand they can’t survive.
Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee voted to approve a resolution holding President Biden’s ghostwriter in contempt of Congress for failing to provide the committee with access to records.
The committee voted along party lines to recommend contempt charges against Mark Zwonitzer.
The resolution is now scheduled for a vote on the House floor.
In March, Committee Chair Jim Jordan subpoenaed the ghostwriter to produce transcripts and tapes of his talks with Mr. Biden for his two memoirs.
The request was made in connection with special counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into Mr. Biden’s mishandling of sensitive documents, which found that the president was too old and forgetful to face prosecution for his actions.
Mr. Hur’s assessment revealed that Mr. Biden told Mr. Zwonitzer secret information from his personal notepad.
It further stated that once the investigation began, Mr. Zwonitzer attempted to conceal some of the recordings and transcripts between himself and the president.
Mr. Biden denies sharing secret materials with the writer.
Lawmakers argue that Mr. Zwonitzer’s failure to comply with the subpoena has “hindered the Committee’s ability to adequately conduct oversight of Special Counsel Hur’s investigative findings, the Justice Department’s commitment to impartial justice, and the President’s retention and disclosure of classified materials.”
“Zwonitzer continues to withhold all documents and materials in his possession that are responsive to the subpoena from the Committee,” according to the resolution.
“The materials requested from Zwonitzer are crucial for the Committee’s understanding of the manner and extent of President Biden’s mishandling and unlawful disclosure of classified materials, as well as Zwonitzer’s use, storage, and deletion of classified materials on his computer.”
The March subpoena followed House Republicans’ repeated attempts to collect materials linked to Mr. Hur’s assessment, which stated that the president mishandled sensitive documents but did not recommend criminal charges.
They previously wanted transcripts, audio, and video of the president’s encounter with Mr. Hur. The transcript was released earlier in March.
The House voted earlier this month to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt for refusing to send over recordings of Mr. Hur’s interview with Mr. Biden.
A few days later, the Justice Department declined to prosecute Mr. Garland.
But what would you expect? The DOJ to investigate and prosecute their own kind?
No one is so naïve as to think that anymore.
