Americans are nervous as ever about election integrity. It’s only getting worse.

Because President Biden just received a stunning election letter.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton Calls for Citizenship Verification of Registered Voters

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has taken a significant step in his ongoing efforts to uphold election integrity by requesting the Biden-Harris administration’s assistance in verifying the citizenship status of approximately 454,300 registered voters in Texas.

In a letter addressed to Ur Jaddou, the Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and President Joe Biden, Paxton emphasized the need for data regarding these voters who have not undergone citizenship verification. He argues that this initiative is essential for ensuring compliance with both federal and state election laws that prohibit non-citizen participation in elections.

Paxton expressed concern over what he describes as a contradiction in federal law, which allows non-citizens to register to vote while simultaneously preventing states from requiring proof of citizenship for federal elections. He stated, “This federal prohibition against citizenship verification makes little sense, but it is especially troubling given the current scale of the illegal immigration crisis.”

His investigation aims to assess the extent of non-citizen registrations in Texas, as he received the list of unverified voters from the Texas Secretary of State’s office. While Paxton believes that the majority of individuals on the list are likely citizens, he recognizes the uncertainty surrounding the potential for non-citizen voting. He cited a recent audit from the Texas Secretary of State’s office, which found over 1,300 non-citizens registered to vote in a random sample of four counties.

In Texas, citizenship status is automatically verified when residents register to vote using a driver’s license or state-issued ID. However, Paxton noted that the individuals on his list did not use such identification, leaving their status unverified. He has set a deadline of October 17 for USCIS to respond to his request.

This demand is part of a broader national conversation regarding voter integrity and non-citizen voting. In a related development, the Arizona Secretary of State faced legal action for allegedly failing to provide the names of 200,000 registered voters who have not proven their citizenship.

Paxton’s initiative is just one aspect of the heightened scrutiny and regulatory efforts surrounding voting eligibility and the integrity of electoral processes in the United States. All over the nation, states have been passing legislation and signing executive orders to improve American trust in the election cycle.

Concerns About Election Integrity: A Growing American Worry

As the 2024 election approaches, concerns about election integrity have reached new heights among Americans. A recent survey revealed that nearly 70% of voters express significant worry about the fairness and security of the electoral process. Several key factors contribute to this heightened anxiety.

Firstly, the proliferation of misinformation and disinformation surrounding elections has become a major issue. Social media platforms often serve as breeding grounds for false narratives regarding voter fraud and election tampering. High-profile cases of misinformation during the 2020 election have left a lasting impact, fostering a climate of distrust that continues to resonate. Many voters fear that this misinformation could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

Additionally, concerns about the security of voting technology have surged. Reports of cyberattacks and vulnerabilities in electronic voting systems have intensified fears that foreign interference could manipulate election outcomes. The hacking of election systems in the 2016 election cycle is a lingering reminder of these vulnerabilities, prompting calls for enhanced security measures and transparency.

Partisan divisions surrounding election issues have only deepened distrust. Each major political party often questions the legitimacy of the other’s victories, contributing to a toxic environment where many Americans feel their votes may not count.

As the nation heads into a pivotal election year, the call for transparent, secure, and fair elections has never been louder. Addressing these concerns will be crucial to restoring faith in the electoral process and ensuring that every voice is heard.
