Donald Trump is confident he’ll win. But he just got even better news.
Because the U.S. Senate gave Donald Trump a huge last minute election report.
Republican Senate Candidate Sam Brown Eyes Upset in Nevada
As the race for the U.S. Senate heats up in Nevada, Republican candidate Sam Brown is looking to overcome a consistent polling disadvantage against Democratic incumbent Sen. Jacky Rosen. Despite trailing by approximately 4% — according to the RealClearPolling average — Republicans are hopeful that a surge in early voting could propel Brown to victory.
Recent polling has shown signs of narrowing, with Brown closing the gap to just two points behind Rosen in a Trafalgar Group survey conducted between October 25 and October 28. This is a notable improvement from earlier in the month, when Rosen held a five-point lead.
A win here would likely give Donald Trump the keys to a friendly U.S. Senate should he also win his race against Kamala Harris. Many GOP insiders and big donors have said they are actually more concerned about the U.S. Senate than the race for the White House right now.
“Historic turnout” in early voting has been a key talking point for Brown, who expressed optimism about the Republican momentum at a campaign event in Las Vegas. “We’ve got a great shot,” he shared with reporters, reflecting on the energy he perceives among voters.
Brown, a veteran with serious burn injuries from an explosion in Afghanistan, views himself as a fighter for his party. He believes he can help secure a Republican majority in the Senate.
According to data released Monday night, Republicans have established a lead of over 40,000 votes in Nevada through mail ballots and in-person early voting. Particularly in Clark County — traditionally a Democratic stronghold — Republicans trail by only about 3,000 votes, suggesting a shift in voter dynamics.
“The rural counties are turning out in a massive number, completely offsetting what has been, you know, the firewall the Democrats used to have in Clark County and Washoe County,” Brown stated.
While Democrats are making efforts to flip Washoe County, Brown maintained that Republicans are still holding an advantage there. Long-time Nevada political reporter Jon Ralston has called attention to this unprecedented trend, warning that Democrats must act quickly or face dire consequences. “I know people want to keep comparing this year to 2020 or 2022, but at the risk of repeating myself: This is a unicorn year,” Ralston wrote on his early voting blog.
In the 2022 election, Republican candidate Adam Laxalt lost to Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto by just over 9,000 votes. In response to the current dynamics, the GOP-aligned Senate Leadership Fund recently injected $6.2 million into advertising aimed at flipping Rosen’s seat, prompting RealClearPolling to update the race label from “leans Democrat” to “Toss Up.”
Brown has been actively engaging with voters, noting a sense of enthusiasm at polling locations. “Almost everyone who walked by was wanting to stop and take pictures,” he observed, highlighting a general sentiment of hope among constituents. “People see that the American Dream that they feared was at risk is not dead and that hope is right around the corner.”
This weekend, Brown participated in a Save Women’s Sports rally in Reno, supporting the University of Nevada, Reno Women’s Volleyball team. He has also been working to connect with diverse communities across the state. “We put a lot of effort into reaching out to our Hispanic community, reaching out to our Asian American Pacific Islander community, reaching out to our black community,” he noted.
Brown’s outreach included a meeting with Asian American and Pacific Islander voters at a Chinese restaurant, followed by an event at the Clark County GOP office with Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley. During this gathering, Whatley emphasized the importance of Brown’s candidacy in the broader strategy for Republican success.
“We know we’re going to win West Virginia. Joe Manchin didn’t even run. That gives us 50,” Whatley asserted. “Where are we going to get 51? Sam Brown.” He also mentioned potential Republican gains in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan, but firmly declared, “For my money, our 51st vote is coming right out of Nevada.”
As Election Day approaches, all eyes are on Brown’s campaign and the potential for a significant upset in the Senate race. Currently, Republicans are expected to win U.S. Senate control back from the Democrats, though installing Brown would definitely be helpful for their majority.
