And this top CNN host and noted Trump-hater quit live on air in a shocking development.
CNN anchor Jim Acosta is set to leave the media outlet following his removal from its programming schedule. In fact, Acosta announced his departure live on CNN on Tuesday morning.
According to The Status newsletter, Acosta’s departure comes after last week’s announcement that his 10 a.m. ET show would be replaced with The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer and Pamela Brown.

The newsletter also reported that CNN CEO Mark Thompson had offered Acosta a two-hour slot starting at midnight — a far less prominent time than his current weekday morning position.
One CNN insider shared with Fox News Digital that Acosta “struggled with the choice” and may be cutting his contract short. “It takes courage,” the source added.
Another insider expressed disappointment over his departure, saying, “Many viewers like Jim… if there is anyone who could make the overnight go it’s him. It’s sad to see him go.”
Acosta rose to prominence as CNN’s chief White House correspondent during the first Trump administration, earning a reputation for his fiery exchanges with President Donald Trump and his aides.
Following the 2020 election, Acosta transitioned to a role as CNN’s chief domestic correspondent, eventually hosting weekend shows before moving to a weekday slot.
Under previous leadership, CNN appeared to embrace Acosta’s confrontational approach during Donald Trump’s first term as president.
However, CNN’s current leadership seems focused on steering its programming toward a more neutral tone during Trump’s second term.
Since joining CNN in 2007, Acosta has reported on political campaigns and covered both the Obama and Trump administrations. He became known for his heated exchanges in press briefings, including a memorable 2018 clash with Trump during a press conference where he refused to relinquish the microphone.
The Trump White House attempted to revoke Acosta’s press credentials, but CNN successfully argued the decision violated his First and Fifth Amendment rights, resulting in their restoration.

Acosta’s combative stance toward the Trump administration boosted his profile, landing him a book deal and appearances on Leftist late-night talk shows.
This heightened visibility eventually secured him an anchor role during the Biden administration. Recently, Acosta took another jab at Trump, telling viewers that “the press is not the enemy of the people.”
