New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy Defiantly Shields Illegal Immigrant in His Home
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, a staunch Democrat, made a bold and provocative declaration during a public event with “Blue Wave New Jersey.” Murphy openly boasted that he and his wife were personally housing an illegal immigrant and went so far as to challenge the federal government to intervene.
“There is someone in our broader universe whose immigration status is not yet at the point that they are trying to get it to, and we said, ‘You know what? Let’s have her live at our house above our garage’ and good luck to the feds coming in to try to get her,” Murphy declared.
Murphy also took pride in New Jersey’s role in opposing the Trump administration’s immigration policies, calling the state “the lead state in challenging birthright citizenship.” His comments were an overt act of defiance against President Donald Trump’s strong stance on illegal immigration.
On his very first day in office, President Trump signed an executive order to put an end to birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants.
“The federal government will not recognize automatic birthright citizenship for children of illegal aliens born in the United States. We are also going to enhance vetting and screening of illegal aliens,” a Trump official said at the time. However, New Jersey’s Attorney General Matthew Platkin quickly condemned the move, calling it “an assault on the rule of law.”
Murphy’s soft approach to illegal immigration has long been a hallmark of his political career. During his 2017 gubernatorial campaign, he took part in a town hall hosted by the Eagleton Institute of Politics.
The moderator brought up a particularly brutal crime: the execution-style m*rders of four college students in a Newark schoolyard. One of the k*llers, Jose Carranza, was an illegal immigrant from Peru who had previously been arrested for child r*pe. Despite his heinous record, Carranza was released on bail only to commit even greater atrocities.
When asked about notifying federal immigration authorities when illegal immigrants are arrested for serious crimes, Murphy’s response was telling. Rather than acknowledge the dangers of shielding criminals from deportation, he downplayed the issue.
“I think, the context, for me, Tom, would be the field is so tilted against Dreamers, against newly-arrived immigrant brothers and sisters, my bias is gonna be havin’ their back, because there’s always gonna be an example in any population of somebody who does somethin’ awful. … We gotta be careful not to extrapolate that and then throw a similar blanket over an entire group of folks,” Murphy stated. His answer made clear that his priority was protecting illegal immigrants—even at the risk of public safety.
The Left’s Unwillingness to Address Illegal Immigration
Murphy’s stance is a prime example of the broader refusal by Leftist politicians to support policies that could effectively curb illegal immigration in America. Time and again, Democratic leaders reject even the most common-sense measures to secure the border and enforce immigration laws.
Whether it’s opposing the deportation of criminals, fighting against voter ID laws, or dismantling border security initiatives, their actions make it clear that political ideology takes precedence over national security.
Despite overwhelming evidence that sanctuary policies lead to increased crime and public safety risks, Leftist politicians continue to champion them. They demonize ICE and border enforcement agencies, portraying them as villains rather than essential protectors of law and order. Even when Americans suffer at the hands of illegal immigrants with criminal records, Democrat leaders refuse to acknowledge the consequences of their policies.
Instead of working toward bipartisan solutions, the Left dismisses any attempt at immigration enforcement as “racist” or “xenophobic.” This unwavering ideological stance has left the country vulnerable to unchecked illegal immigration, creating a crisis at the border and placing unnecessary burdens on American communities.
Ultimately, politicians like Murphy are not just ignoring immigration laws—they are actively defying them.
By prioritizing illegal immigrants over the well-being and security of American citizens, they reveal their true agenda: open borders and unrestricted migration, no matter the cost.
