Nancy Pelosi Implies She Had Hand In Kicking Joe Biden Out Of 2024 Election Race
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi addressed the 2024 election results in a recent interview, asserting that Democrats likely would have faced even greater losses had former President Joe Biden stayed in the race. Despite the outcome of the election, which saw Democrats net a single House seat — flipping nine Republican-held districts while losing eight seats to Republicans — Pelosi disputed Biden’s claims that his presence in the race could have led to a victory.
In an appearance on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports, Pelosi was asked about the election and Biden’s assertion that he could have won if he had remained a candidate. Pelosi was quick to counter this notion, stating that Democrats actually succeeded in securing a seat in the House. “Well, all I know is that we won a seat in the House. We did not lose any seats. People were like ‘oh the Democrats lost,’ no, we did not. I think it would’ve been quite different with President Biden at the top of the ticket,” she remarked.
The former speaker’s comments highlight a growing rift between the Democratic leadership and the Biden camp in the aftermath of the election. Following Biden’s disappointing performance in the June 27 presidential debate against then-Republican nominee Donald Trump, many within the Democratic Party called for him to step down. Heeding these calls, Biden officially announced on July 21 that he was ending his bid for a second term. He also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, who, despite her party’s endorsement, ultimately lost the popular vote and all seven critical swing states to Trump.
Biden, reportedly upset by the pressure from his own party, expressed anger toward key Democratic figures involved in pushing him out of the race, including Pelosi, former President Barack Obama, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. According to sources, Biden’s frustration was palpable, as he believed the behind-the-scenes efforts to sway him into quitting were a betrayal. First Lady Jill Biden also expressed her disappointment in Pelosi, suggesting in January that it was disheartening to see Pelosi fail to stand by her husband’s side during the crucial moments when Democratic leaders publicly called for his withdrawal.
When asked if she had spoken to Biden since his exit from the race, Pelosi confirmed to MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell that they had not been in contact. However, she emphasized that she believes her actions were always in service of the American people, especially for the nation’s children. “My whole passion about being in politics is for the children. So what is it that we’re doing for the children? I think it would’ve been important for the children to not have Donald Trump be President of the United States, and I would take every step necessary to make sure that didn’t happen,” Pelosi stated.
However, Pelosi acknowledged the current reality: “But it did, and now we have to deal with it.” The former speaker also declined to directly answer whether she had supported Biden’s reelection bid during a July 10 interview on Morning Joe on MSNBC.
She noted that Biden’s decision to step down was ultimately his own and denied accusations that she had led the effort to force him out. Despite this, reports from Politico suggested that Pelosi had privately warned Biden that he could either exit the race “the easy way or the hard way.”
Pelosi’s stance on Biden’s withdrawal continued to evolve, and in a November 9 interview, she suggested that either Vice President Harris or another nominee would have been “stronger” and better positioned to present a compelling case to the American people had Biden stepped aside earlier in the race.
In any case, it’s hard to believe the idea that she wants the American people to believe that she had no hand in President Joe Biden exiting the race. That would be a clear crossing of the line that would leave a stain on the Democrat Party for decades to come, which is exactly why the Democrats want to keep a lid on how Joe Biden stepped aside.
Some Washington, D.C. outsiders who are heavily involved in Democrat politics, like the “progressive” news outlet The Young Turks, have alleged that the Democrat elites were preparing to ride with Joe Biden right through to the general election until they couldn’t keep Joe Biden’s declining mental health under wraps anymore. Once Joe Biden’s age became an issue for a vast majority of voters, the Democrat elites were ready to completely invalidate their primary process all in an attempt to save face for the 2024 election.
Clearly from Nancy Pelosi’s comments, the goal was never to win the White House in 2024. They did not have high hopes for Kamala Harris, and they only viewed a potential Harris win as an added benefit were she able to pull it off. Instead, Pelosi and the other high profile Democrats were much more concerned about the down ballot Democrats.
