The RINO Republican has reached the end of the road. And Trump couldn’t be happier.
Because Mitch McConnell was stripped of power in the Senate according to scathing report.
Sen. McConnell’s Grip on Senate Republicans Appears Broken
Senator Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) once-formidable control over Senate Republicans seems to have crumbled, marking a stark shift in his political standing.
In recent weeks, McConnell has aligned with Democrats on key votes, opposing Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. His attempts to derail President Donald Trump’s nominees—whom he labeled unqualified and “unworthy”—failed to sway his fellow Republicans. In most cases, McConnell stood as the lone GOP opposition, signaling his waning influence.
“He’s not voting against Bobby,” Trump remarked Thursday regarding McConnell’s stance on RFK Jr. “He’s voting against me.”
As Trump continues to steer the Republican Party toward an America First agenda, McConnell’s globalist leanings have left him isolated. Once a dominant force in the Senate, McConnell is now wheeled into the chamber to cast votes against a Republican conference he no longer commands.
Despite his role as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense and his legacy as the longest-serving Senate party leader in U.S. history, McConnell’s ability to marshal votes against Trump has significantly diminished.
“After 40 years of being a bully in the Senate, McConnell’s final legacy is blocking Trump, confirming Biden, and freezing up when it matters,” a senior House aide said to Breitbart News.
During McConnell’s tenure as Senate leader, the national debt soared past $35 trillion, illegal immigration numbers went up, and real wages for American workers stagnated.
His leadership saw the passage of Obamacare in 2010, the bank bailouts of 2008, and unchecked censorship by social media companies. His ties to the Chinese government have also drawn scrutiny.
“If I didn’t come along, the Republican Party wouldn’t even exist right now,” Trump said. “He let the Republican Party go to hell.”
NBC News’s Scott Wong, Sahil Kapur, and Frank Thorp V noted McConnell’s diminishing sway: “Now out of leadership and wrapping up what is likely to be his last term in office, McConnell, 82, is free from the constraints of leadership and the prospect of facing voters again. He has not only voted against a trio of Trump’s high-profile nominees in recent days but also publicly criticized Trump’s tariff plans.”
“At the same time, McConnell, who is using a wheelchair in recent days after he suffered a fall, has lost much of his influence on a Senate Republican Conference that he once managed with an iron grip as he has grown further out of step with the MAGA movement driving the party.”
“I think we’ve reached peak YOLO McConnell,” a former aide of McConnell’s said to NBC News.
Beyond political setbacks, McConnell’s physical health has become an increasing concern. In February, he fell down the stairs outside the Senate chamber in full view of reporters.
This incident followed another fall in December 2023, leaving him with visible injuries. More alarming than the falls themselves were two instances in which he froze while speaking to reporters, raising further questions about his fitness for office. After another fall in Washington, D.C., he was treated for a concussion.
“He’s not equipped mentally. He wasn’t equipped ten years ago mentally, in my opinion,” President Trump stated.
McConnell’s diminishing control over Senate Republicans, combined with mounting health issues, suggests that his once-unquestioned authority is rapidly fading. As the GOP moves forward under Trump’s leadership, McConnell’s era of dominance appears to be drawing to a close, and that couldn’t be better news for the vast majority of Republicans who are looking to push Trump’s America First agenda to the finish line.
