Democrats’ Latest Impeachment Scheme Targets Trump’s Defense Team

In yet another display of political opportunism, Democratic Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar is gearing up to file impeachment articles against three key figures in President Donald Trump’s defense apparatus: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe. According to a Thursday report from Axios, Omar’s move comes on the heels of the so-called Signal chat leaks—a scandal that Democrats are now shamelessly exploiting to undermine their political adversaries.

The incident stems from an accidental misstep by Waltz, who added The Atlantic’s Editor-in-Chief Jeffery Goldberg to a group chat discussing military strategies against Houthi rebels in Yemen. Goldberg wasted no time publishing the details on Monday, igniting a firestorm that Omar and her progressive allies are now fanning into a full-blown impeachment crusade. Axios reports that Omar has been pitching this idea to her fellow House Democrats, with a senior House Democrat and another insider confirming her aggressive push.

Omar, a prominent member of the left-wing clique dubbed “the squad”—alongside Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib—seems to view this as a golden opportunity to score points against the Trump administration. But this isn’t about accountability; it’s about weaponizing impeachment as a cudgel to bludgeon political opponents, a tactic Democrats have honed to a fine art over the years.

The Trump administration has firmly rejected the notion that “war plans” were part of the leaked chat. Hegseth and Waltz have both denied the allegations, but that didn’t stop Goldberg from doubling down with a second piece on Wednesday, releasing the full logs. Those logs, he claims, show Hegseth outlining specific dates and times for actions against the Houthis—actions that, inconveniently for the Democrats’ narrative, actually came to pass and proved successful.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took to X on Tuesday to drive the point home: “Thanks to the strong and decisive leadership of President Trump, and everyone in the group, the Houthi strikes were successful and effective. Terrorists were k*lled and that’s what matters most to President Trump.” The results speak for themselves, yet Democrats like Omar are more interested in playing gotcha than celebrating a win against terrorism.

Waltz, for his part, appeared on Fox News Tuesday to dismiss the controversy, denying ever meeting Goldberg and pointing to Elon Musk’s involvement in providing “the best technical minds” to investigate how the editor ended up in the chat. Meanwhile, Ratcliffe testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee that same day, explaining that Signal was an approved tool for internal discussions and came pre-installed on his CIA computer. These are hardly the smoking guns Omar might hope for, but facts have rarely deterred Democrats when impeachment fever strikes.

This latest stunt fits a familiar pattern. The Democratic Party has turned impeachment into a go-to strategy for settling scores and energizing their base, regardless of the merits—or lack thereof. From Trump’s own impeachments to this new offensive against his defense team, the process has been stripped of its gravity and transformed into a partisan circus. Omar’s gambit isn’t about defending national security; it’s about flexing political muscle and punishing those who dare to succeed where Democrats falter.

The Signal chat leak may have been an embarrassment, but the real scandal here is how quickly Democrats pounced to exploit it. While the Trump administration delivers tangible results—like dead terrorists and neutralized threats—Omar and her cohort are busy drafting articles of impeachment over a group chat. If this is the best they’ve got, it’s no wonder their credibility continues to erode. Americans deserve leaders focused on real problems, not petty vendettas dressed up as justice.

As for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, he’s not concerned about what the talking heads in the media are saying at all. He believes this is just a bunch of nonsense to derail the Trump administration and typical of the Fake News Media propaganda machine. Hegseth called the hoopla just a “hoax” that the media is trying to peddle.
