Rarely does Trump throw the Left a bone. But when he does, it’s the last person you’d expect.

And now Trump surprised everyone by supporting this Democrat lawmaker.

Trump Champions Adams’ Re-Election Bid

President Donald Trump delivered a strong endorsement of New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ re-election campaign during a speech at the “Alligator Alcatraz” migrant detention center in Florida on Tuesday, describing Adams as a “very good person” dedicated to public safety.

Trump highlighted his role in the Department of Justice’s decision to dismiss a federal corruption case against Adams, which both have characterized as politically driven retribution for the mayor’s outspoken criticism of the Biden administration’s border policies.

“I helped him out a little bit,” Trump said, adding, “That was a Biden indictment. I said, ‘Don’t feel bad. I got indicted five times.’” This support emphasizes Adams’ alignment with Trump’s focus on law and order, positioning him as a pragmatic leader in a contentious mayoral race.

Escalating Feud with Mamdani Over Immigration

Trump sharply criticized Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, the frontrunner in the New York City mayoral race, calling him a “total nut job” and warning of arrest if Mamdani interferes with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.

Mamdani, who clinched the Democratic nomination with a commanding 56% to 44% victory over former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the ranked-choice primary, has made “Trump-proofing” New York City a cornerstone of his campaign. His platform pledges to “fight Trump’s attempts to gouge the working class, and deliver a city where everyone can afford a dignified life.”

In response to Trump’s remarks, Mamdani stated, “The President of the United States just threatened to have me arrested, stripped of my citizenship, put in a detention camp and deported. Not because I have broken any law but because I will refuse to let ICE terrorize our city.”

This clash highlights an ideological battle between Trump’s immigration crackdown and Mamdani’s progressive resistance.

Adams’ Campaign Gains Strategic Support

Running as an independent after distancing himself from the Democratic Party, Adams has embraced Trump’s backing as he seeks to build a coalition spanning left, right, and center voters.

His campaign spokesman, Todd Shapiro, affirmed, “We thank president Trump. It doesn’t matter if you are a Democrat or a Republican, public safety and keeping the city’s streets safe is a non-partisan issue… Mayor Adams prioritizes the safety of New Yorkers and that’s something President Trump supports.”

Sources within Adams’ camp revealed strong support from Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, with one insider noting, “They love him.”

Adams’ recent appearances on Fox News, including a Monday segment where he criticized Mamdani’s lack of governing experience, point to his strategy to leverage Trump’s support while highlighting his record of creating jobs and enhancing subway safety.

Facing Mamdani, Republican Curtis Sliwa, and independent Jim Walden in the general election, Adams aims to defy the odds in a historically divided race.
