The Democrat Party doesn’t know how to not humiliate themselves at this point. It’s pretty much the only thing they’re good at.
And the Democrats utterly embarrass themselves by making this damaging social media post.
On Thursday, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) stumbled into a public relations disaster with a now-deleted X post that backfired spectacularly, drawing widespread ridicule for inadvertently spotlighting the steep rise in grocery prices under Joe Biden’s presidency. The post, shared through the DNC’s official @TheDemocrats account, ignited a viral storm, amplifying heated debates about inflation, economic policy, and political accountability.
Intended to pin blame on President Donald Trump, the graphic instead became a lightning rod for criticism, earning the DNC accusations of a monumental “self-own” that reverberated across social media.
The X post showcased a chart tracking the escalating costs of everyday essentials—cheese, alcohol, dairy, groceries, produce, and meat—starting from October 2019. The data revealed a dramatic spike beginning around 2021, aligning with the onset of Biden’s administration.
The caption boldly declared, “Trump’s America,” alongside a graphic stating, “Prices are higher today than they were on July 2024 all in major categories listed below.” Curiously, the chart omitted any mention of its data source, raising immediate questions about its legitimacy and fueling skepticism among viewers. This lack of transparency only deepened the scrutiny that followed.
The White House’s rapid response X account jumped on the opportunity by swiftly adding a “Biden” label to the chart with arrows pointing to the pronounced price surges during his tenure. The visual contrast was undeniable: the Biden-era increases, highlighted in red, dominated the graph, while the relatively stable prices during Trump’s presidency appeared as a mere sliver. The juxtaposition turned the DNC’s attempt to deflect blame into a glaring admission of economic struggles under Biden’s watch.

Social media erupted, with users across the political spectrum piling on the DNC’s blunder. X user Matthew Rosario captured the sentiment with a biting quip: “I don’t know … Kinda looks like Biden’s America.”
Conservative podcaster Kyle Becker didn’t hold back, calling the post “one of the dumbest posts in @X history” and noting that the DNC yanked it offline “after getting ratioed into oblivion,” a reference to the flood of critical replies and quote posts that overwhelmed the original.
Popular X personality “Greg” added fuel to the fire, declaring the tweet “might be the biggest self-own I’ve ever seen on this website.” The rapid deletion of the post only amplified the perception of embarrassment, as users screenshotted and shared the graphic, ensuring its infamy lived on.
The numbers behind the controversy paint a challenging picture for Biden’s economic legacy. Under his administration, inflation soared to levels not seen since the early 1980s, peaking at a 9.1% annual rate in June 2022, only 17 months after he became president.
Federal data shows that by the end of Biden’s term, food prices had risen by more than 22% since his inauguration in January 2021. This surge hit American households hard, with groceries becoming significantly more expensive, squeezing budgets and fueling public frustration.
The incident emphasizes the heightened sensitivity around economic issues, particularly inflation, which has remained a top concern for voters. The DNC’s attempt to shift blame to Trump not only failed but also invited an examination of Biden’s economic record.
Critics have pointed to supply chain disruptions and other various issues as contributing factors to the inflationary spiral under Biden, while defenders argued that global economic pressures, including the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, played a significant role.
Regardless, the DNC’s decision to highlight price increases without context or a clear source backfired, handing critics a ready-made talking point.
Beyond the immediate backlash, the episode reflects the perils of political messaging in the fast-paced, unforgiving arena of social media. The DNC’s failure to anticipate the counter-narrative allowed opponents to seize control of the conversation, turning a single post into a case study in political optics gone wrong.
The rapid deletion of the post, while likely intended to limit damage, only cemented the perception of a party caught off guard by its own messaging.
The fallout from this blunder is likely to linger, serving as yet another reminder that the Democrat Party can’t stay out of its own way.
