Vance is in the crosshairs of the Democrats. They want to launch all sorts of assaults towards him.
And JD Vance was rocked by an unhinged attack from a radical Leftist group.
Vice President JD Vance is the subject of the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) wrath after a fishing trip with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy during an official visit to the United Kingdom. The outing, which took place on a private lake at Chevening House, has ignited a political uproar, with Democrats accusing Vance of indulging in leisure while American families deal with economic issues.
Republicans have hit back, dismissing the DNC’s attacks as a calculated effort to smear Vance by zeroing in on his personal and family-oriented activities amid a grueling international schedule. In a scathing press release titled “VACATION VANCE AT IT AGAIN: Vance Fished ‘Illegally’ With UK Foreign Secretary While Americans Drown in Sky-High Costs,” the DNC painted Vance’s trip as a lavish misuse of taxpayer money.
The fishing episode occurred at Chevening House, the foreign secretary’s official residence south of London, where Vance and Lammy met to discuss pressing global issues, including the Israel-Hamas conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war. Before their formal talks, the two took to the estate’s lake for a brief fishing session.
Vance, in a lighthearted moment, told reporters that the “one strain on the special relationship” with Lammy was that “all of my kids caught a fish, but the foreign secretary did not.”
He swiftly shifted to serious matters, stating that the U.S. has “no plans to recognize a Palestinian state” due to the “lack of a functional government” in Gaza. The meeting came just a week before President Donald Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin.
The DNC pounced, alleging in their release that “Vance is living it up on his summer holiday — on the taxpayers’ dime — all while working families face sky-high inflation and the largest cuts to health care and food assistance in American history.”
The controversy grew when U.K. media reported that Lammy lacked a valid fishing license for the private lake, prompting the British Foreign Office to make a statement to Sky News to acknowledge an “administrative oversight.” The U.K.’s Environment Agency mandates rod licenses for freshwater fishing in England and Wales for those over 13, and Lammy has since reached out to the agency to rectify the issue.
Kiersten Pels, a Republican National Committee spokeswoman, fired back, telling Fox News Digital, “The DNC’s donors are OK with funding press releases on a fishing rod license? They might want to pull their money out now before the last of it vanishes down the drain.”
The DNC’s criticism didn’t stop at the fishing trip. They also slammed Vance’s six-minute address to U.S. troops at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, claiming he rushed back to a “$10,000 per week luxury Cotswolds manor.”
They further accused him of “using public resources” for a boating trip to celebrate his birthday earlier in August, alleging he enlisted former U.K. Chancellor George Osborne to orchestrate his “vacation’s social agenda” in the “Hamptons of the UK.”
The DNC claimed Vance’s fishing blunder could cost Lammy a £2,000 fine and charged that the Trump-Vance administration “ripped away health care from 17 million Americans, slashed food assistance for over 22 million families, and unleashed economic chaos” to benefit wealthy donors.
This attack follows other Democratic jabs at Vance’s family activities. California Governor Gavin Newsom recently took aim at Vance’s Disneyland trip with his kids, posting on social media, “Hope you enjoy your family time. The families you’re tearing apart certainly won’t.” Vance replied, “Had a great time, thanks.”
Criticisms were also directed towards a U.S. Secret Service request to raise an Ohio river’s water levels for a kayaking trip Vance took with his family for his 41st birthday, a precaution to ensure safety for motorized watercraft and emergency personnel.
Vance, whose memoir Hillbilly Elegy recounts his upbringing by a drug-addicted mother in Appalachia, his Marine service, and his rise to Yale Law School, has stressed the value of family time.
In an interview on The Katie Miller Podcast, he said, “It’s possible to do it even in my job. Yes, if like a war breaks out, then sometimes you have to cancel even the sacred time. But we’ve been pretty good about making sure that I have at least a couple of hours with my family every single day.”
As political tensions escalate, the DNC’s focus on Vance’s personal moments highlights just how shallow Democrats can be, with Republicans defending his efforts to juggle official duties and family life.
