The Left has an image problem. And it’s getting worse by the day.
And now a key friend of Nancy Pelosi went on a racist tirade on CNN.
Etienne Warns of Democratic “Identity Crisis” Amid Voter Shifts
Former Harris and Pelosi Communications Director Ashley Etienne stated Thursday on CNN’s The Lead that a range of Democratic shortcomings has eroded support among core constituencies, leading black voters to support an “openly racist individual” in double digits—though she offered no specific evidence or identification for the remark, which appeared to reference a Republican figure.
In the wake of President Donald Trump’s 2024 victory, Democrats have grappled with retaining key demographics that swung toward Republicans. During a discussion on Texas state Rep. James Talarico’s Senate campaign, Etienne addressed whether his approach resonates across diverse party factions.
“Absolutely. I mean, and it’s clearly working. He’s breaking fundraising numbers, and I will tell you, I’m from Texas, and the state rep is all the talk across the entire state,” Etienne said. “So, for me, it’s energizing because it really signals that our bench is deep, that we’ve got a lot of young talent that we can bring into the party [and] revive the party.”
“But I will say the challenge though, is that we’re consistently looking for a savior, to quote the New York Times. The reality is the party is fundamentally broken,” Etienne added.
“We’re facing a three-alarm fire. We are in an identity crisis. We’re bleeding support among our base voters, a growing trust cap among voter[s]. And we’ve got an aging infrastructure that we’ve got to address.”
Talarico Enters Crowded Texas Senate Race
Talarico launched his challenge to former Texas Democratic Rep. Colin Allred on September 9, positioning himself as the party’s nominee to oppose Republican Sen. John Cornyn in the general election. Cornyn, seeking a fifth term, is also contending with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the GOP primary.
Etienne emphasized that while Talarico brings vitality, no single figure can resolve the party’s deeper woes, which she argued have been overlooked across cycles.
“So no one person is going to fix the problems of this party. The problem is that we continually sort of ignore them, brush them under the rug and move from election to election. Again, it just continues to fracture the foundation,” Etienne said. “We find ourselves where we’re bleeding support among our base vote voters.”
“And black voters are voting for an openly racist individual at double digit numbers. I mean, that’s a problem for the Democratic Party,” Etienne said. “That speaks to the depth of the problems that we have. And I don’t think there’s one person — although I love the state rep, he’s fantastic — is going to fix it.”
Democrats have at times applied the “racist” label to Republicans including Trump and Cornyn. In 2020, Cornyn drew Democratic ire for suggesting isolated police issues did not equate to systemic racism department-wide; he still secured 11% of black voters, 42% of Hispanic voters, and 68% of white voters per Washington Post exit polls.
2024 Exit Polls Reveal Demographic Realignments
Post-election analysis left Democrats scrutinizing Trump’s appeal to traditional strongholds like black and Hispanic communities, despite Kamala Harris’ outreach efforts—which included criticized vague interview answers and targeted racial policies.
Nationwide exit polls indicated Harris captured 77% of black male voters, while Trump received 21%—a two-point rise from 2020. Trump also claimed 46% of the Hispanic vote overall, a 14-point jump from 2020, and 54% among Hispanic men compared to Harris’ 44%, marking an 18-point gain.
