Sometimes those closest to you aren’t the best people. And the president is learning that the hard way.
Because the police are after this former Trump official for a horrifying crime.
Indictment Details and Allegations
A federal grand jury has charged ex-Trump national security adviser John Bolton over his alleged mishandling of sensitive classified materials.
Spanning 18 counts focused on retaining and disseminating national defense data, the charges stem from Bolton reportedly transmitting classified details via his personal email, which Iranian hackers later compromised.
He also allegedly forwarded restricted info to unauthorized parties, accompanied by notes like “More stuff coming!!!” and “None of which we talk about!!!”
The probe ties into a broader documents investigation, where Bolton is accused of passing top-secret intel to his spouse and child, per CNN reports. The veteran Trump-era official has long rejected any accusations of improper handling of secrets. He’s slated to turn himself in at a federal courthouse in Greenbelt, Maryland, potentially by Friday.
Investigation Background and Bolton’s Response
Authorities scrutinized Bolton’s management of classified items, leading to FBI searches at his Maryland residence and D.C. office, where agents confiscated numerous files marked as classified to varying degrees.
In response, Bolton declared himself targeted by politically motivated legal action.
“For four decades, I have devoted my life to America’s foreign policy and national security. I would never compromise those goals. I tried to do that during my tenure in the first Trump Administration but resigned when it became impossible to do so,” said Bolton in a statement.
“Now, I have become the latest target in weaponizing the Justice Department to charge those he deems to be his enemies with charges that were declined before or distort the facts,” he said.
Pattern of Prosecutions Involving Trump Critics
Bolton marks the third prominent Trump detractor indicted in the past few weeks. Last week saw New York AG Letitia James facing fraud allegations tied to falsely designating a Virginia property as her main home on 2023 mortgage paperwork—despite her role mandating New York residency.
Post-indictment, James has vocally framed her case as politically driven persecution. Detractors highlight her prior civil suit against Donald Trump, which imposed a massive near-half-billion-dollar judgment, labeling it a partisan attack that weakens her defense.
In late September, ex-FBI chief James Comey faced charges for making false statements and obstructing Congress, entering a not-guilty plea.
“No one is above the law,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement at the time. “Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people.”
