The House speaker is airing out his thoughts. They’re ones that will strike a chord for many.
And Mike Johnson gave an election update you’ll want to hear.
House Speaker Mike Johnson is not buying the doom-and-gloom predictions pouring out of the media and the polling industry ahead of the midterms.
On a recent episode of America’s Newsroom on Fox News Channel, the Louisiana Republican made clear that the conventional wisdom about a Democratic takeover of the House is simply off the mark.
Host Dana Perino put the challenge to him directly.
“I’m going to give you a shot here to respond to some political analysts who say the House is gone, that the Dems are definitely going to be in the majority,” she stated.
“You disagree. You say that you can defy those odds. Here’s — you have the floor. How so?”
“Yes, thank you, Dana. Good to be with you. We’re excited. I’m in Texas today. We will do three events here, and then I will head — I think I have got eight states this week. I have been doing this for almost two years, and I’m telling you, the polling is wrong,” Johnson said.
“Now, you have a lot of polling organizations right now acknowledging that they’re undersampling Republicans, because Republicans don’t want to respond to polls anymore.”
“So, CNN did a story, Dana, just this week and acknowledged that Republicans have been underestimated in October polls 14 of the last 16 elections going back to 1994,” the speaker added.
“Don’t buy it. I’m telling you, I’m on the ground in the swing districts. I am seeing huge energy in crowds. It feels like 2024 to me. That’s not registering in the polls, and we’re fired up.”
That message from the speaker lands with force for anyone tired of being told by coastal analysts that the election is already decided.
Johnson has spent nearly two years crisscrossing the country, and the picture he describes from the actual districts looks nothing like the numbers flashing across cable screens and newspaper websites.
Republicans have grown weary of answering survey calls, and the pollsters themselves are starting to admit it.
When the people most motivated to change the direction of the country stop picking up the phone, the resulting samples skew toward the other side.
That is not a secret conspiracy. It is a practical reality that keeps producing the same error cycle after cycle.
