More secrets are coming out for Harris. She’s losing control on what she can hide.
And Kamala Harris is shaking in fear after a private message was uncovered for all to see.
In the heat of the 2024 presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a raw, unfiltered message to a room full of uneasy Democratic governors. Gathered at the White House on July 3, 2024, just days after President Joe Biden’s faltering debate performance against Donald Trump, the governors voiced concerns about publicly backing Biden amid questions about his mental sharpness. Harris, undeterred, cut through the tension with a blunt rallying cry: “This is about saving our f–king democracy.”
This vivid moment, detailed in the forthcoming book 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America by Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager, and Isaac Arnsdorf, captures the desperation gripping Democrats as Biden’s campaign unraveled. Reported by the New York Post, the exchange reveals the high stakes and deep divisions within the party as they faced a resurgent Trump.
The Debate That Shook the Democrats
The catalyst for this crisis was Biden’s appearance at the June 2024 presidential debate, held unusually early at the urging of his aides. A campaign memo, later published by Politico, argued that an early debate would allow Biden to showcase his leadership to a massive audience:
“By holding the first debate in the spring, YOU will be able to reach the widest audience possible, before we are deep in the summer months with the conventions, Olympics and family vacations taking precedence… In addition, the earlier YOU are able to debate the better, so that the American people can see YOU standing next to Trump and showing the strength of YOUR leadership, compared to Trump’s weakness and chaos.”
Instead, the debate became a disaster. At 81, Biden appeared exhausted and confused, struggling to articulate his thoughts. Trump seized the moment, quipping, “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence, and I don’t think he knows what he said either.” The performance sent shockwaves through the Democratic establishment, fueling fears that Biden’s candidacy was doomed.
A Party in Panic
As Biden’s campaign spiraled, calls for him to step aside grew louder. On July 10, 2024, actor George Clooney penned a stinging op-ed in the New York Times, pleading for Biden to drop out of the race.
Democratic leaders followed, and by July 21, Biden relented, ending his bid for re-election. Harris stepped into the void, launching a whirlwind three-month campaign that, despite its energy, couldn’t overcome the party’s fractured momentum.
Harris’s July 3 plea to the governors was a last-ditch effort to shore up support for Biden. After the meeting, New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz stood in the White House driveway to affirm their loyalty to the president.
Hochul made the claim that all governors “pledged our support,” but the book reveals this was far from the truth. Many, including high-profile figures like California’s Gavin Newsom, Illinois’s J.B. Pritzker, Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro, and Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer—each seen as potential Biden replacements—remained silent, their absence speaking volumes.
The book notes, “Many of the governors were deeply skeptical that Biden could continue his campaign, and they were furious with Hochul for suggesting otherwise.”
The Left’s Democracy Warning Falls Flat
In the end, Harris’s invocation of “saving our f–king democracy” didn’t resonate with voters as Democrats had hoped. Throughout 2024, the Left framed Trump’s return as an existential threat to democratic norms, warning of authoritarianism and institutional collapse.
Yet, this message failed to galvanize the electorate. Many Americans, grappling with economic concerns and disillusioned by political gridlock, dismissed the rhetoric as alarmist.
The Democrats’ focus on democracy also struggled to cut through the noise of a polarized media landscape. Trump’s base, energized by his outsider narrative and promises to disrupt the status quo, remained unmoved by warnings they viewed as partisan hyperbole.
As Trump reclaimed the White House, the Left’s dire predictions about the end of democracy fell flat, revealing a disconnect between elite messaging and everyday concerns. The election exposed a hard truth for Democrats: passion alone, even when laced with profanity, couldn’t bridge the gap between their vision and the voters’ reality.
