JD Vance is a solid defender of Donald Trump. He’s certainly got the president’s back.
And Vice President Vance took no prisoners while putting these Trump critics in their place.
Trump’s Immigration Overhaul Defies Critics, Delivers Economic Wins
Vice President JD Vance has taken a firm stand against economic analysts and their media supporters, rejecting their claims that large-scale deportations of illegal immigrants would tank the U.S. economy. Speaking at the Hill & Valley Forum with hosts of the All-In podcast, Vance celebrated the transformative impact of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, which are on track to achieve a historic milestone: the first net negative immigration rate in nearly 50 years.
“Where we’ve been most wildly successful is that we have, I think, in 2025, we’ll have the first net negative immigration number in about 50 or 60 years in the United States, and so there has been a major, major, major shift in immigration policy,” Vance stated.
This shift directly challenges the predictions of analysts who warned that Trump’s deportation plans would trigger economic chaos, raise housing costs, and create an uptick in inflation.
Instead, Vance pointed to data showing the opposite. Housing costs, far from soaring, are beginning to stabilize. Inflation, another feared consequence, is cooling off.
“There’s always more that we can do and I think there’s more than we can do, but if you just look fundamentally, what people said is that if you actually take border enforcement seriously, the entire economy is going to collapse, inflation is going to go through the roof, housing costs are going to go through the roof,” Vance explained.
“And if you look, while there’s still a lot more to do, inflation has cooled, housing costs are now showing signs of peaking … there are a lot of things that we’re showing work and more importantly, we’re showing that if you put your faith in American workers, you can build great companies and build a great economy.”
“You don’t have to build an entire economy on illegal labor, which is what the Democrats told us we had to do.”
In a striking reversal, the Trump administration has dismantled the migrant-dependent economy built under former President Joe Biden in under six months. According to the Labor Department, native-born Americans have driven all net job growth since Trump and Vance were sworn into office.
Foreign-born employment has dropped by over 500,000 due to tough immigration policies, while American-born employment has surged by more than two million, highlighting a clear focus on prioritizing American workers.
Why Trump’s Immigration Plan Strikes a Chord
Trump’s immigration strategy has gained traction not just for its economic outcomes but for its alignment with the priorities of millions of Americans.
Many polls find that Americans support stronger measures to curb illegal immigration, reflecting widespread frustration with years of porous border policies. Many voters see these policies as having strained public resources, from schools to healthcare, while undercutting wages for working-class citizens.
The administration’s emphasis on deportations and robust border security resonates with those who view it as a necessary step to restore balance in the labor market.
This focus on American workers has likely energized communities that felt overlooked by previous administrations, fostering a sense of economic fairness.
Beyond economics, Trump’s approach taps into a deeper sentiment of national pride and self-reliance. By prioritizing American workers, the administration has connected with voters who want a government that puts citizens first.
This groundswell of support has turned Trump’s immigration agenda into a powerful political force, shaping the national dialogue and reinforcing his administration’s commitment to delivering for the American people.
