The Left is desperate to take back Congress. But the GOP is ready to fight back.
And Republicans have revealed a new Democrat evil scheme planned for the 2026 midterms.
As the 2026 midterm elections loom on the horizon, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has launched a sharp critique against House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). The GOP group is ridiculing what they call a set of “wildly unpopular” policy ideas tied to the Democrats’ so-called “Project 2026” agenda.
The DCCC, in turn, has fired back, labeling the Republican efforts as a frantic bid to shift attention away from their own shortcomings. “Big talk by the party who’s betrayed the middle-class so they can suck-up to their billionaire donors,” said Viet Shelton, a DCCC spokesperson.
He went on to describe the GOP’s record as one filled with “rising costs, lost manufacturing jobs, a Big, Ugly Law that everyone hates, and a string of broken promises,” while pointing to recent polls showing eroding support for the Republican majority.
“It’s no wonder House Republicans are desperately attempting to distract from their failed leadership and refusal to get a single thing done for the American people,” Shelton added.
The exchange heated up when the NRCC issued a memo on Tuesday, taking aim at Jeffries for missing his own timeline to unveil a fresh plan for the country under Democratic House control. Back in April, as reported by The Hill, Jeffries had pledged: “over these next 100 days, House Democrats are going to lay out a blueprint for a better America. And you will see a vision for this country’s future that isn’t about Donald Trump. It’s all about you.”
With that 100-day mark long passed, the NRCC rolled out a tongue-in-cheek memo dubbed “Project 2026,” portraying Democrats as disconnected from everyday concerns.
“Hakeem Jeffries promised a ‘Project 2026’ within 100 days of April 30th, and it’s been over 100 days. Democrats know their agenda is wildly unpopular, and their focus on these issues will cause them to lose yet again,” the NRCC stated.
In the document, the Republicans claim that the Democratic Party, guided by “‘Leader’ Jeffries and AOC,” aims to “move swiftly and unapologetically to return to Joe Biden’s America and implement the bold, transformational change our base demands.”
It outlines eight alleged Democratic priorities, from “Bring Back Wasteful Government Spending and High Crime” to “Open Borders. Full Stop” to “Impeach President Trump. Again. And Again.”
Among the more exaggerated accusations are calls to “institute a federal ‘Carbon Lifestyle Tax’ on Americans who dare to own trucks, SUVs, or backyard grills,” alongside references to real proposals like those from New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani for “pilot programs for government-run grocery stores in ‘underserved’ neighborhoods.”
On the economy, the memo alleges Democrats seek to “expand bloated government programs and bankroll the Green New Deal” while undoing tax reductions from the Trump era.
It further claims they plan to “abolish ICE permanently,” “ban border wall construction and tear down existing barriers,” and “provide taxpayer-funded healthcare, housing, and legal aid for every undocumented immigrant.”
The NRCC also pokes fun at cultural shifts, suggesting Democrats push for “More Woke, Less Rational” policies like “mandate pronouns and DEI training in every school and workplace” and “no more ads featuring Sydney Sweeney or Shane Gillis.”
NRCC spokesman Mike Marinella, speaking to Fox News Digital, summed up the critique: “This is the America Democrats want to build.”
He warned of “Higher taxes, open borders, skyrocketing gas prices, no more gas cars, crime in the streets, pronouns before commonsense, and no more freedom. House Republicans are the only thing standing between you and the nightmare of ‘Project 2026.’”
This back-and-forth highlights the intensifying partisan divide as both sides gear up for a pivotal election cycle in 2026.
