Michigan Democrat Congressman Shri Thanedar has announced plans to introduce legislation aimed at wiping out U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement entirely.
Thanedar, speaking at a press conference this Wednesday, didn’t hold back in his attack on the agency tasked with protecting America’s sovereignty.
He labeled ICE as “beyond reform” and insisted it’s “totally out of control.” This rhetoric plays right into the hands of open-border advocates who seem more concerned with coddling lawbreakers than safeguarding American communities.
The Congressman didn’t stop there, pointing fingers directly at Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. He claimed ICE is “working beyond control” under her watch.
Adding fuel to his fire, Thanedar boasted about his role in pushing for Noem’s impeachment. He said he was “proud to have co-sponsored a resolution” to oust her, charging her with squandering “taxpayer funds,” deceiving his “homeland security committee,” and overseeing an agency that’s supposedly “committing crimes across America.”
Thanedar’s most explosive comments came when he declared the need to eliminate ICE outright. “And, we must finally — we must, we must reform ICE, but it looks at this stage folks, ICE is beyond reform. ICE is totally out of control and this week, I intend to introduce a bill to abolish ICE,” Thanedar stated. “We need to make ICE go away.”
A recent press release from the congressman, dated January 9, lays out the details of his so-called Abolish ICE Act. The proposal seeks to “dismantle the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and end its current enforcement authority,” effectively handing a victory to those who want unchecked migration flooding American streets.
This push follows a tense incident in Minneapolis where an ICE agent was forced to defend himself and his colleagues from a violent assault. Reports indicate that Renee Good, a 37-year-old woman, met a tragic end after allegedly turning her vehicle into a weapon against law enforcement.
Thanedar seized on the event to justify his radical agenda. “The tragic death of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, a 37-year-old mother fatally shot by an ICE agent, shows that ICE cannot be reformed and must be abolished,” he stated.
He went on to call his bill “a step toward justice, accountability, and a more humane approach to immigration policy.”
But let’s get the facts straight from those who were actually there. According to Breitbart News reporter AWR Hawkins, the chaos erupted when “a group of people began trying to block ICE agents” during “targeted operations” in the city of Minneapolis. In the midst of this obstruction, the woman reportedly “used her vehicle to attack agents.”
The Department of Homeland Security wasted no time in setting the record straight via a post on X. They described how a woman “weaponized her vehicle” and tried “to run over” the officers, labeling it “an act of domestic terrorism.”
Secretary Noem herself provided more context on the harrowing ordeal. She explained that ICE officers were conducting an “enforcement action” when their vehicle got bogged down in snow, leaving them vulnerable.
That’s when the aggression escalated. “A woman attacked them, and those surrounding them, and attempted to run them over, and ram them with her vehicle,” Noem said.
In a split-second decision, “an officer of ours acted quickly, and defensively shot to protect himself and the people around him.”
This incident highlights the real threats ICE agents face every day from agitators who prioritize disruption over law and order.
Instead of praising the quick thinking that likely saved lives, Thanedar twists it into ammunition for dismantling the very force keeping criminals at bay.
