Angie Nixon wants to represent Florida in the United States Senate. She is the Democratic Socialists of America’s chosen candidate for the job.
But she recently made a statement that should stop every parent in the state cold.
Nixon freely admitted that she has taken her own children to drag shows. She did not treat this as a private family choice that might raise eyebrows. She presented it as normal, positive, and even good for kids.
According to Nixon, there is nothing s*xual about these events.
She claimed the performances amount to nothing more than adults putting on costumes, singing, and putting on a show. In her view, this is pure entertainment suitable for the whole family.
Here are her exact words:
“I don’t understand like — there’s no s*xualization at a drag show. It’s just people dressing up and singing and performing. I’ve taken my children to drag shows, and it’s fun. It’s entertainment. It’s wholesome entertainment.”
“And it’s nothing wrong… I don’t get it.”
That is the position of a woman seeking a seat in the world’s most powerful legislative body.
She looks at grown men in exaggerated makeup and revealing outfits performing for audiences that include children and sees only “wholesome entertainment.”
Many ordinary Americans see something very different. They see a culture that has spent years pushing adult s*xual themes into spaces once reserved for kids.
They see libraries hosting drag story hours. They see schools quietly adopting curricula that treat gender as a costume anyone can put on or take off.
And they see candidates like Nixon treating parental skepticism as some kind of failure of imagination.
