It’s not often leftists make confessions. They’re usually too proud to admit when things go wrong.
And a Democrat congressman made a confession that will leave you speechless.
House Democrats just handed Republicans a gift on national television, and they barely seemed to notice.
During a recent episode of Morning Joe, California Rep. Pete Aguilar, the chair of the House Democratic Caucus, admitted out loud what millions of Americans have known for years: the health care system was already a mess long before Trump became president.
“I think the American voter absolutely knows — well, they know two points: One is healthcare wasn’t great for them before Donald Trump came to office. And that’s on all of us to make a system that is better for them. And just because you have a card in your pocket doesn’t mean you have access to healthcare,” Aguilar stated.
“So, that’s step one that they know, you have to lead with understanding what they’re going through. And then you have to tell them, Donald Trump cut $1 trillion out of healthcare last year, with the help of House Republicans, and that’s not going to make your lives any easier.”
“Whether you’re on Medicaid or whether you are on private insurance, the emergency rooms are going to skyrocket, and that’s going to affect your family and my family as we try to seek healthcare.”
That first sentence is the real story. Democrats spent eight years under Barack Obama promising the moon with the Affordable Care Act.
Premiums climbed. Deductibles exploded. Networks shrank. Doctors left. And now the man charged with messaging for House Democrats concedes that the system “wasn’t great” even before Trump arrived.
Aguilar kept going: “And so, we need a healthcare system that works for everyone. We need affordable healthcare for everyone. That’s what we’re talking about. That’s what we’re going to do. And if we’re given an opportunity to lead, that’s the premise in which we’re going to address this issue.”
Notice the pivot. After admitting the pre-Trump system failed ordinary people, he immediately returned to the familiar script of blaming Republicans for every remaining problem.
The $1 trillion figure he tossed out is the usual Democratic scare tactic dressed up as fact. It ignores the reality that federal health spending has ballooned for decades under both parties, and that much of the growth has come from the very programs Democrats expanded.
Voters do not need another lecture about “affordable healthcare for everyone.” They have heard that line since 2009.
What they need is a system that does not punish work, does not force healthy people to subsidize every risk, and does not put government bureaucrats between patients and doctors.
Aguilar’s own words show Democrats still have no answer for the failures they created.
