Biden and Obama want everyone to believe they’re the best of friends. But that supposed-relationship has now been put to the test.
And Joe Biden backstabs Barack Obama in the most unexpected way possible.
President Joe Biden is trying to make a name for himself as commander-in-chief after serving in President Barack Obama’s administration as vice president.
Unfortunately for Biden, he’s not doing so well with that goal because in his first term as president, he’s helped bring about a disastrous economy, awful foreign policy decisions, and a major crisis at the United States’ southern border.
The president however still thinks there’s some pieces of legislation that he’s been a part of that should be bragged about.
According to Axios, behind closed doors Biden will sometimes brag to his staff that “Obama would be jealous” of legislation that he’s been able to pass so far during his first term.
Obama and Biden have mostly appeared to be good friends, with the former president often praising Biden in public.
Some of Biden’s aides however, believe that Obama did not always respect his insight on things when he was vice president.
And now with Biden’s comments about Obama being jealous, there’s certainly questions over a possible rivalry between the two Democrats, especially since they share some of the same staff members according to previous comments from Obama.
“Joe and the administration are essentially finishing the job,” Obama said to The New York Times back in 2021.
“Ninety percent of the folks who were there in my administration, they are continuing and building on the policies we talked about.”
Andrew Bates, a spokesman for the White House, denied a rivalry between Obama and Biden and said that they are in communication with one another quite a bit.
“We recognize that the actual level of drama in this White House is insufficient to meet some reporting quotas, but President Biden does not make such comments in private,” Bates said to the Washington Examiner.
“As President Biden has said, President Obama is family to him. In addition to their personal bond, they agree overwhelmingly on the issues facing the country, including building an economy that works from the bottom-up and middle-out, protecting our critical freedoms, and opposing attacks on our democracy.”
“There are no stronger supporters of President Biden’s leadership and agenda than President Obama, his team, and alumni of the Obama-Biden Administration – many of whom serve during this presidency. And the President talks to both former President Obama and President Clinton often.”
But past comments have recently been revealed that show that Biden and Obama’s relationship isn’t as strong as the White House would like you to think.
When the transcript of then-special counsel Robert Hur’s interview with Joe Biden was recently released, Biden admitted that Obama was in favor of Hillary Clinton running in 2016 instead of the then-vice president.
“A lot of people … were encouraging me to run in this period, except the president,” Biden said in the interview.
“He just thought that [Clinton] had a better shot of winning the presidency than I did.”
Barack Obama will absolutely be a full fledged supporter of Joe Biden’s 2024 reelection campaign, but he has admitted that he’s worried the president won’t be able to defeat Donald Trump in the general election this year.
