Politics can be a dangerous game. Sometimes you stand to lose it all.

And a presidential candidate was just attacked in their own home.

Los Angeles police detained a man twice on Wednesday after he attempted to trespass on 2024 presidential contender Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s private property in the posh Brentwood neighborhood, according to a news release from Kennedy’s presidential campaign.

According to NBC News, investigators recognized Jonathan Macht, 28, of Los Angeles, and he is currently being jailed on $30,000 bond for violating an emergency protective order.

The first incident, according to the campaign, happened about 9:30 a.m., when the suspect allegedly scaled a fence and asked to see Kennedy, who was at home with his wife, Cheryl Hines, at the time.

According to the campaign, Gavin de Becker and Associates, a private security firm employed by Kennedy, apprehended the individual and turned him over to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Responding officers arrested the man and took him to the West Los Angeles police station, where he was cited and released.

Following that citation, according to the campaign, the man returned to Kennedy’s home and was arrested a second time while Kennedy and Hines were still present.

The private security firm allegedly contacted the Secret Service about the suspect, whom they described as a “obsessed individual,” and relayed disturbing communications previously addressed to the candidate from the anonymous person.

“Over several months, the campaign submitted formal requests for Secret Service protection, yet U.S. Department of Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas has refused to approve the protection,” the campaign said.

“Every presidential administration for 55 years has afforded early protection to candidates who requested it.”

“The Biden administration is the sole outlier,” the campaign added.

An armed man was detained last month for impersonating a U.S. Marshal at a presidential campaign rally in Los Angeles.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Inmate Information Center, authorities jailed 44-year-old Adrian Paul Aispuro on a felony gun charge and held him on $35,000 bond.

The incident occurred at a “Hispanic Heritage” event at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles when Aispuro entered and introduced himself as a member of Kennedy’s security detail, according to the candidate.

Aispuro was apprehended by police at the spot, just miles from where his father, Robert F. Kennedy, was shot and killed by a gunman on June 5, 1968.

“The man, wearing two shoulder holsters with loaded pistols and spare ammunition magazines was carrying a U.S. Marshal badge on a lanyard and beltclip federal ID. He identified himself as a member of my security detail. Armed GDBA team members moved quickly to isolate and detain the man until LAPD arrived to make the arrest. I’m also grateful to LAPD for its rapid response,” Kennedy posted on X.

“I’m still entertaining a hope that President Biden will allow me Secret Service protection. I am the first presidential candidate in history to whom the White House has denied a request for protection,” he said.

Kennedy previously chastised Biden, implying that the denial of federal protection was motivated by politics.

Kennedy just abandoned his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination in favor of running as an independent. He suggested the political divisions in the U.S. were “deliberately orchestrated” and declared himself as the solution for people who are “fed up with being fooled and [are] ready to take back power.”
