The Democrat Party thought they had it in the bag. But they made a critical mistake.

As Donald Trump’s recent election win over Joe Biden even has CNN throwing in the towel.

We’re just five months away from the conclusion of the 2024 election cycle as Americans start to figure out who they want to vote for in their local, state, and federal level elections. Everything is on the table, from the White House to the U.S. House of Representatives to the U.S. Senate.

Needless to say, it’s critical that each of the major political parties is on their A-game if they want to remain relevant in the years to come throughout American politics. That should be a concern for Democrats considering Joe Biden has not been an easy problem to explain away in recent months. His favorability in average circles of American voters is maybe too bad to overcome this close to the election.

Not only that, but they thought they had a major win against Donald Trump when he was handed a “guilty” verdict in the Manhattan trial that many believe was a sham from the start. That has even turned around and backfired on the Democrats as well. Trump is as strong as ever according to all the polls coming out recently.

Just how well is he doing? Well CNN’s top data analyst Harry Enten has highlighted how bleak it’s looking for Joe Biden and company based on a direct comparison to 2020. Specifically how Donald Trump’s actually won over a number of voters who said they were more willing to trust Biden in 2020 on critical issues but now are behind Trump on those same issues this year.

Maybe even more critically, voters who were once leaning Democrat or reliably Democrat voters are now switching in favor of Donald Trump in a big way.

Foreign-Born Voters Leaning Towards Trump Over Biden, CNN Polls Show

In a revealing analysis on Tuesday, CNN’s senior data reporter Harry Enten highlighted a significant trend: foreign-born voters are showing a preference for former President Donald Trump over President Joe Biden. This insight is based on recent data from polls conducted by CNN and SSRS, indicating Trump’s slight lead over Biden by 3% among U.S. voters born outside the country.

During a segment on CNN News Central, co-host Kate Bolduan remarked on Trump’s controversial immigration rhetoric, describing it as “harsh” and “extreme.” However, Enten pointed out that Trump’s stance does not seem to be negatively impacting his poll numbers in this demographic.

“I think a lot of Democrats are saying, ‘Oh, look at Donald Trump, look at what we call anti-immigration rhetoric. There’s going to be some backlash,’ I’m not quite sure that’s exactly right, and I’ve been keeping a track on this,” Enten told Bolduan. He elaborated on the surprising preference of U.S. voters born abroad, who have historically leaned towards Democratic candidates. “In fact, slightly more of them support Donald Trump at 47% than Joe Biden at 44%. This is a change from 2020 when these voters preferred Joe Biden.”

The overall sentiment towards Biden’s immigration policies is reflected in broader polling data. According to the RealClearPolling average of polls from March 22 to May 21, only 33.4% of voters approve of Biden’s handling of immigration, while a significant 62.8% disapprove. This disapproval comes amidst a backdrop of increasing encounters at the border, with Customs and Border Protection reporting 1.6 million encounters in fiscal year 2021, 2.2 million in 2022, and 2 million in 2023. To date, fiscal year 2024 has already seen 1.1 million encounters.

Enten also referenced a Marquette University poll that underscores Trump’s dominance on the issue, showing a 27% lead over Biden in handling immigration. “No matter how you phrase it, you will see that more voters today trust former President Trump over President Biden, but the margins can change depending on how it is,” Enten explained.

Highlighting the significant shift in public trust, Enten noted, “Back in June of 2020, Biden was actually trusted more on the question of border security and immigration by a single point. Look at where we are in May of 2024. My goodness gracious, look at this huge jump that Donald Trump has gotten. He is now ahead on this issue by 27 percentage points.”

This data suggests that not only is immigration a more pressing issue for voters now than it was four years ago, but there has also been a substantial shift in whom they trust to handle it. The trend indicates a growing confidence in Trump’s approach to immigration and border security among a critical voter demographic.

As pointed out by CNN, these are data points that are now in Donald Trump’s favor that were absolutely not back in 2020. Obviously 2020 had major factors in play that simply overall dragged down Donald Trump’s favorability in an unpredictable and unfair way. That’s precisely why Donald Trump’s come back to take the political stage by storm and is the leading candidate once again.

All these facts make it hard to ignore the possibility that the Democrat Party truly pulls the trigger on letting Joe Biden appear on the ballot for their party against the surging Donald Trump.
