Kamala Harris is furious at Tim Walz for completely blowing up her campaign

The Harris campaign is in panic mode. All because of what Tim Walz just did.

And Kamala Harris is utterly furious with Tim Walz for completely blowing up her campaign.

The debate for Tim Walz was particularly bad. Normally, the Vice Presidential debates do not move the needle in a major way that it discernibly helps one candidate or another. The VP debates from 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020 are largely forgotten, while the Presidential debates themselves get all the attention. So for Tim Walz to give Donald Trump a boost to his election odds because of how poorly he performed in the debate against J.D. Vance is wild.

One of the most embarrassing moments of the entire night was when Tim Walz said he was friends with school shooters and learned how to govern China, whatever that means. The quote is so stunning, it’s almost unbelievable that he said it unless you see it for yourself.

That was bad enough to lose him the entire debate. Immediately everyone knew that it would be a long night for the Governor of Minnesota. J.D. Vance didn’t let up, either. He commanded the room the entire night, giving off far more professionalism than Tim Walz did.

Now Tim Walz is just making matters worse. He’s providing an explanation for his comments about “becoming friends” with school shooters. Except his “explanation” doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. He went on in a ramble that never addressed what he meant about being friends with school shooters and governing China. It was a Tim Walz word salad special.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz sought to clarify a controversial remark he made during a debate with Republican Senator J.D. Vance, where he referred to being “friends with school shooters.” The comment came during the only scheduled vice presidential debate hosted by CBS News, in which Walz was questioned about his changing stance on an assault weapons ban.

The day after the debate, NBC’s Julie Tsirkin asked Walz if he wanted to explain his remarks. “Yeah, and look, you got to see me, these folks know me. I’m super passionate about this. The question [that] came up on school shootings was talking about everything except school shootings. I sat, as a member of congress, with the Sandy Hook parents. It was a profound movement — David Hogg is a good friend of mine,” Walz said.

Walz further elaborated on his statement, acknowledging that he needed to be more precise. “You have seen me do this, I was talking about meeting people where there are school shooters. I need to be more specific on that, but I am passionate about this,” he explained. Walz, a former teacher, emphasized the personal nature of the issue for him and his wife. “This one, for my wife and I, is just — as teachers, as parents — is so personal. So I’ve become good friends with these Parkland students, and of course the Sandy Hook parents, who I credit and thank them for a profound change in how I viewed that.”

During the debate, Walz pointed out his past support for the National Rifle Association (NRA) but highlighted how gun safety perspectives have evolved. “Yeah, I sat in that office with those Sandy Hook parents. I’ve become friends with school shooters. I’ve seen it,” Walz said. He also reflected on how the NRA has changed over time. “Look, the NRA, I was an NRA guy for a long time. They used to teach gun safety. I’m of the age where my shotgun was in my car so I could pheasant hunt after football practice. That is not where we live today.”

Walz represented Minnesota’s 1st District in the U.S. House from 2007 to 2018, where he earned an ‘A’ rating and donations from the NRA. However, after becoming governor in 2019, he passed gun control measures, leading to an ‘F’ rating from the NRA during his campaign, according to The New York Times.

Tim Walz’s Bad Night Costs The Harris Campaign

Since the conclusion of the debate, the betting odds have dramatically shifted in Donald Trump’s favor. The betting odds, which tend to lean left, had Kamala Harris up by a small margin in her race against Donald Trump. Since the VP debate, that lead has essentially vanished.

On PredictIt, you can cast bets on who you think will win any particular race or predict an outcome. The more expensive a candidate is, the more likely the bettors believe they are to win that race. Kamala Harris was enjoying a 10 cent lead over Donald Trump before the VP debate. Now that’s down to about 5 cents. You can generally extrapolate this to mean that bettors were significantly discouraged by the VP debate, enough to sell off their Kamala Harris bets while they could.

These markets do fluctuate a lot, but it’s not just the betting markets where we’re seeing troubles pop up for Kamala Harris and company. A new Left-leaning poll, Activote, had Harris up three points in September but now has her up only one point in their national surveys. That’s far, far behind where Clinton and Biden were at this point. Harris having only a 1 point advantage nationally would almost ensure a Trump electoral college victory.
