The second Trump admin is shaping up. It’s going to be very different this time.

And now a big Trump appointment announcement has rolled in.

Stephen Miller Set to Join Trump White House as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy

President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly set to name Stephen Miller as his deputy chief of staff for policy in the upcoming administration, according to sources familiar with the transition team’s plans. While Trump has not officially confirmed the appointment, Vice President-elect JD Vance appeared to corroborate the news in a post on X (also known as Twitter), responding to CNN’s report about Miller’s expected role.

Miller, a staunch hard-liner on immigration policy, previously served in the Trump White House during the first term, where he held roles as both director of speechwriting and senior adviser to the president. Throughout his career, Miller has been a vocal proponent of strict immigration measures, and he is expected to play a key role in shaping policy during Trump’s second term.

A Strong Advocate for Hard-Line Immigration Policy

Miller is perhaps best known for his hard-right stance on immigration. Before Trump’s 2020 defeat, Miller had outlined plans for even more restrictive immigration policies in a potential second Trump term. In an interview with NBC News at the time, he indicated that the administration would prioritize reducing asylum grants and work visas, cracking down on “sanctuary cities,” and expanding the travel ban with stricter visa screening measures.

He has long argued for stronger immigration enforcement, and in a second Trump term, Miller would likely be a central figure in efforts to implement Trump’s controversial pledge to pursue mass deportations of undocumented immigrants.

Miller has also been active in public discourse about immigration issues. On Election Day 2024, he posted on X, “GET THE H*LL TO THE POLLS AND VOTE TO END THE INVASION!!!” He also made a controversial statement in another post that day, claiming, “Illegals are r*ping and m*rdering American children. All the men of America need to fulfill their duty, get to the voting booth, and end the invasion once and for all.”

Miller’s views on immigration have often put him at odds with more moderate voices within the Republican Party. In May 2021, he criticized the Senate’s immigration bill, which Republicans ultimately blocked under pressure from Trump. Miller denounced what he called the “border security” provisions in the bill, claiming that when Democrats speak of “border security,” they are actually referring to “more efficiently processing illegals for ENTRY to America.” He argued that true border security meant mass deportations, a policy that, he contended, the Biden administration had effectively undermined.

Post-White House Activities

Since leaving the White House, Miller has continued to influence conservative policy as the head of America First Legal, a group he founded with former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows. The organization has made headlines for its legal battles against the Biden administration, including a 2021 lawsuit accusing President Biden’s American Rescue Plan of discriminating against white farmers. The group has also filed multiple complaints with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), including one last year challenging what it termed “woke” corporate initiatives, such as programs at the Kellogg Co.

Support for “Make America Healthy Again” Agenda

Miller’s role in shaping Trump’s policy direction has not been limited to immigration. In the days leading up to the 2024 election, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told NBC News that he ran into Miller at one of Trump’s rallies at Madison Square Garden. During their conversation, Miller reportedly expressed strong support for Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) initiative, which focuses on eliminating toxins like microplastics, pesticides, and artificial chemicals from the nation’s food supply.

According to Kennedy, Miller told him, “I want you to know something — that literally everybody on this staff, from top to bottom, is committed to MAHA, and we’re so excited about getting micro-plastics out of our bodies, and our food, about getting the pesticides off of our agricultural fields, about getting the chemicals and the food colorings out of our food.” He added, “I’m convinced that if you get — if we get in there and you are allowed to do what you’re going to do, which President Trump is gonna make sure it happens, that we’ll be able to reduce chronic disease in this country by half within four years.”

Stephen Miller is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the administration’s policy agenda, particularly on immigration. His hard-line views on immigration, combined with his leadership in conservative legal circles, suggest that he will be a key figure in Trump’s efforts to implement his most controversial and far-reaching promises.
